Now, I must rant.
A message to everyone who feels the urgent need to get us all on the "right" path (i.e.--your path) by bombarding us with "we're-all-gonna-die-tomorrow" email messages: I don't want to know what your politics are. Please, shut up!!! Do not spread your "gospel" to me through my email account. This is something I don't want to know about you. I don't want to be blindsided by your opinions, because I don't give a flying f--- about your opinions. If I want to know your opinions, I will ask you for them. If I am on a list with you that is dedicated to anything other than politics (and ALL my lists are) KEEP YOUR DAMN POSTS ON TOPIC! I don't freaking care who you like or don't like. It is not an important message you need to share with me. Really. It's not. And if the rules of the list are that off-topic posts are not permitted, that applies to you, too. It is not ok to post your off-topic post because you believe it's "REALLY, REALLY IMPORTANT!!!" You have to follow the rules, just like the rest of us. And here's a news flash: we are not going to be destroyed tomorrow if you don't forward a hateful email message to me and the other 800 unfortunates in your address book. And this may come as a shock to you, but there is more than one "right" belief in the world. That means for you and every 1000 of your buddies who feel one way, there are 1001 people who feel just the opposite. That does not make you wiser, and the rest of the world stupid. It just means there is more than one "right" opinion. Live with the fact. And if you're really that unhappy, maybe you should kill yourself. Either that, or deal with the fact that people you support are not always going to be running the show. Neither are the ones the other 1001 people support. It works that way. It has always worked that way. And when I am on the other side of things, I guarantee I will not be bombarding your inbox with my own "gospel." I will leave you the peace of your opinion. If you want political discourse, you will have to seek it somewhere else, which is the way it should be. Sure, you have the freedom to voice your opinion, just like I have the freedom to tell you to shut the hell up.
Ok, rant over. Yesterday we had my mom and dad, the married kids and her mom over for a steak dinner. I have discovered that, now that I live in a decent house and have furniture for people to sit on, I actually enjoy entertaining. Not that I want to do a lot of it, but it was fun. And it's fun having guests to stay, now that I have an actual bedroom to put them in, and an actual bed for them to sleep in.
Tomorrow I have to get to the library early and get busy on my huge project in legal research. The rough draft is due next Tuesday. I did some of it last week. It's kind of addictive, really. You look up one thing, then you have to look up something else, then another idea occurs to you and you have to look up another...it's a vicious cycle. But it's fun, so it's ok.
I am going to go take an aspirin now, and consider unsubbing from a few lists.
Oh, and one more message to the world:
LIVE IN THE COUNTRY WHOSE FLAG YOU CARRY!
