My post two years ago was all about prayer, my last post was about prayer, the sermon yesterday was about prayer, and the church’s theme for this year is prayer!
I had trouble picking out just one idea from the sermon, for this week’s “sermon words”. There was a wonderful reminder that the Holy Spirit is our Prayer-Partner; also that non-praying is a sign of pride. What I finally decided on was the fact that the word “earnest”, when the Bible says that “earnest prayer avails much”, means “ongoing/unstoppable” prayer. In other words, it’s nice to know that you don’t have to get all emotional about it-just concerned enough that you remember to keep at it.
One thing we’re praying for, is the elders at our church as they consider searching for a new pastor (the present one is being led elsewhere). There is a lot of work involved in a pastoral search, including the work of prayer. But I suspect the hardest part is the waiting…
“Meanwhile, the moment we get tired in the waiting, God’s Spirit is right alongside helping us along. If we don’t know how or what to pray, it doesn’t matter. He does our praying in and for us, making prayer out of our wordless sighs, our aching groans.” (Romans 8:26)
Remind us to direct our wordless sighs and aching groans to You; and to ask for help/prayer when we need to.
