Today I defended my masters' research for my committee! I won! So, I will - in two short years - be Elizabeth L. Whitlock, M.A., M.D.. (The masters' is contingent upon my completing my M.D., so I [weirdly] had to date my manuscript May, 2010.) (Also, it's a Master of Arts in Biology and Biomedical Sciences. How that makes sense, I do not know.) Really, I think mycommittee was impressed that my talk involved (1) pretty pictures - ah, so! - and (2) impressive animations... overlooking all the data that I should've had by now, but didn't. Thanks, committee!
In other news, I present for HHMI on Monday, and give two talks (unrelated to any prior presentations) at the Plastic Surgery Research Council (i.e. Real Doctors who aren't explicitly on my side) meeting in two weeks. So, I could be hyperventilating, because I don't even have the data for those presentations yet, but I've sort of run out of energy for worryin'. More like a constant low burn of adrenaline for the last two weeks. And then, in four weeks, I start my constant mid-level adrenaline burn... for 1.5 years. Get used to it, parasympathetic nervous system; you're losing this battle.
