Summary: Erica follows her Hero

Erica almost died when she was 5. She had snuck off from her mom at the fair, because she really wanted to see the tigers. Suddenly there were a bunch of explosions and weird looking creatures running everywhere. One of the creatures started to grab Erica and she screamed, then the monster suddenly fell over with an arrow through it's head. A man holding a bow came over and asked if she was alright, she said yes and he told her to hide and she did, only occasionally peeking out to see the amazing man with the bow.

Later after all the monsters disappeared, and Erica's mom found her, and yelled at her, Erica begged to learn to shoot arrows like the man who saved her. Her mom said no, but after a month of begging, Erica finally got her way.

Erica was a natural, or at least her teachers said that. She didn't really believe them and just worked harder. By the time she was 13 Erica was winning every competition she entered. By the time she was 16, she didn't even bother entering competitions anymore because they weren't a challenge. When she turned 18 she moved out of her parent's house claiming she was going to college, but really she had other plans.

Erica had been watching those “superheros” on TV ever since the day at the fair. She especially watched the man with the arrows and dreamed of one day working with him. Erica had seen where a rogue hero would pop up, and then not to long after they appeared, they would disappear for a bit, then they would reappear and be working with the big heroes. So that was her plan.

Erica made up a costume and started wandering around at night, pinning bad guys to walls until police arrived, though she always made sure she never killed anyone. She started seeing herself make the news, “An unknown vigilante shooting arrows at criminals & leaving them pinned to walls.” She knew her time had to be coming.

Erica was right, as the next night she went out someone knocked her out and she woke up in a small room wands tied to a chair. For a moment she though perhaps she had gone to far, and maybe this had all been a mistake, but she was here now & she would get her dream.

A door suddenly opened and a shadow of a man appeared, “So what exactly do you thing you have been doing out there little...what is your name?”

“Erica”

“Erica? That is your name? You really lack creativity don't you. Anyway, you know why your here. I know why your here, and I don't feel like scaring you so we will go straight to the Welcome to S.H.I.E.L.D. You are now one of our Hawkeyes, no you don't get to say no. Dana here will explain and walk you through your new life. Have fun.” The man quickly made his way out the door as a small girl walked into the room.

“Ignore him, he's just grumpy cause he lost the bet on who gets to tutor you. Anyway I'm Dana, I'm Hawkeye #2, you will be Hawkeye #3.” The girl said smiling while untying my wrists and helping me up.

“Hawkeye #3? You mean there is more then one? And Hawkeye is a guy. Right?” Erica asked as she rubbed at her wrists.

“That's what we want everyone to think. We show superheros as invulnerable, immortal, and all that stuff. And Hawkeye #1 is a guy, but that doesn't really matter.” Dan answered as she led Erica down a long hall.

“So Hawkeye #1 is the original then?” Erica asked.

Dana laughed, “No, the original Hawkeye is retired.”

“Retired? How long?” Erica asked, wondering if her hero wasn't even who she thought.

“About 5 years, there was an accident in a battle. After that they started picking up us newbies. Anyway, now this,” Dana said as she started leading me into a small room. “will be your room. I know they are small but you get used to it.”

Erica looked round but was far more interested in the original Hawkeye, “Does he still work here? The original I mean.”

Dana stopped and stared at me for a minute, “Let me guess, he saved you and that made you want to become a hero? We get a lot of those around here, I guess that is what keeps Hero's in business. But trust me, he is not someone you want to see. When he saved you he was a hero, now, he's not much of anything. Don't go looking into things that will destroy your memories.”

Erica shook her head, “I take it you went digging? I have to know.”

Dana sat on Erica's bed, “After a while I managed to dig out where he lived now. He lost his arm in a battle, they couldn't fix it, he couldn't shoot anymore. I don't blame him for being like he is now. He threw a glass at me. Shattered right next to my head. I'm still not sure if he missed or not. Then he told me that I would end up just like him and I should run while I could. He's,” she paused and closed her eyes, “ he's not the same man he was before he got hurt. At least that is what everyone who knew him before has said.”

“I'm sorry Dana.”

Dana shook her head then smiled, “It's OK, we are here to make sure people remember him as a hero, now lets get on with the tour.”

Erica nodded and followed behind Dana, he would still be Erica's hero, even if he wasn't one anymore.
