Best job ever

I'm dogsitting for one of my former coworkers. I tell you, the dogsitting business is the best job ever. You get to stay in beautiful houses and play with doggies ALL the time! And people pay you for this! I don't even advertise, it just comes up in conversation and they'll look at me and go "well, you know I have a couple of dogs..." I might be dogsitting for another coworker who has four or five Clumber Spaniels, which aren't very big dogs, but they're heavyset and have a definite presence.

I'm babysitting two little white yappy-type dogs that look like this:

It wouldn't be my first choice for a dog, but they're very sweet and like to snuggle. They have some bizarre habits though. Right now one of them is taking a mouthful of kibble from the dish and bringing it over to where I'm sitting at the computer, dropping it on the ground, and eating it slowly, kibble by kibble. My coworker also said they will bark and howl if they can see the bottom of their dog food bowl, even if there are kibbles left. I haven't seen that happen yet, but it sounds so crazy.

I've been working with them while out walking, because they bark at people and other dogs. I've been watching a lot of Dog Whisperer lately and I'm finding the techniques really do work, especially if you can catch them right before they go into a barking frenzy.

The neighborhood is a little insane. It's out in Middleton, in a part where ALL of the roads are curved. It's impossible to walk anywhere in a straight line without cutting through someone's yard. If you follow a road, you may find yourself back where you started, or completely lost. I hate it. On the other hand, the house backs up to farmland, and I saw a few cranes stroll by over the weekend. It feels very close to nature for being in town.

On the work front, I was back at the larger lab for the first time in over a week. It was really busy and we had our fair share of problems, but it was a nice change. There were a ton of protimes to do, which I didn't mind a bit. It feels good to be able to sit down in the middle of all the chaos and be able to work without being interrupted. I was lucky to get those few minutes, because at the end of the day I had a mislabeled specimen and a critical lab value to take care of at the same time.
