Voicemail from my sister and almost-three-year-old nephew Elliot:
Lindsay: "Say hi to auntie."
E: "You gave me cars." (Cars sounds like... caaaohs, kinda.)
Gave you clothes?
(Attempting to pronounce better) Cwoes... no, caahs...
What? (amused, perplexed sister)
Caa - cars
Cars?
Yeah!
Oh, did you say thank you?
Yeah. Mommy can you say thank you... Yellow car and a, and a white car
Okay...
And I eated those cars, I eat that.
Oh! The candy cars.
Yeah!
Oh, yummy.
Yeah, that's yummy.
That's not actually what we called to call you about, but I'm going to hang up before your answering machine erases this.
Mama, I eated the candy car all up!
(unintelligible but I suspect the conversation may have gone on like this for some time.)

I knew they'd like the foil-wrapped, car-shaped chocolates, but I didn't realize what an impression they'd make. Little E, being the adventuresome brother, ended up enjoying both cars himself since his brother stayed in Tacoma that day. The photo above is after he'd eaten the cars, but honestly, he seems to have the same crazy level of energy at all times--until suddenly it's gone and he's asleep.
