My name is mud. My reputation is shot. I still have my ability to make cute stuff, though.

Guess what I did last night? Bought a bunch of fabric online. From a nearby-but-not-quite-local place. And yesterday, I reported that we made a trip to Uwajimaya/Kinokuniya on the weekend and how I happily spent money there. Here's one of several things (not counting the Elephant Clock) I plan to make from the books I obtained:

And here are a few handsewn dresses I haven't yet reported on:

Left: Naomi's dress and hat, deemed "insanely cute" by the mamma. Simplicity 9784. I regret that I don't have as many detail shots of things like the facing and lining for you--I wasn't in the mood to photograph so sent Seth outside instead. He's good with the artsy shots (and in general a great photog) but not so keenly aware of the painful details of garment creation. Yet. He picked up knitting quickly, but rarely wants to do it, whereas after I got him going on the sewing machine, within an hour he said, "I like sewing," and wanted to make and remake certain things (double-strap whatchacallems for his bike pedals). (Huh. I just got a brilliant idea. I think my Sears machine will become his and I will seek out something... much more expensive for my exclusive use. This after I pay for a molded mouthguard, right, so it'll be a while.)

Right: Emma's unintentionally mod smock-dress, which elicited the comment "You should sell these" from the mom and an innocent bystander (aka Betsy). I will not be selling them because they're from a pattern--Simplicity 4304, to be exact--and also, I have about zero time to make more stuff. But it's a nice thought.

Both were made within the past month. The first took a weekend day for the dress and a long evening for the hat; the second should've taken about 3 hours but here's the thing. If you mess up in sewing, you spend a.lot. of time picking out stitches. Sigh. Still, I will make it again, probably several times. I'm really happy that they're loved by the moms! That was the goal.

More pics in my Flickr sewing set.

(I've been doing really well in my "get things off the docket 'cause the twins are coming!" plan, yet somehow I feel like I'm not getting enough done. I think I lost momentum, must move forward!)
