I have to admit that I was not planning on riding to Portland in the RAIN. Well. Being over 40% of the way to my goal (some pledges are not yet tallied online) is a pretty rad birthday present. It is really astounding and wonderful to know my friends and family* are so generous and loving [hey, I don't think it's an overstatement]. My tactics for ( Read more... )

I just donated! Yay! So happy birthday to you!

How long are you going to be in PDX for before you leave for SF? Any chance for a meeting? You might be too exhausted, so that's ok. Did you say you were taking the train? Tell me how that is for that long of a train ride. Anyway.

Thank you! You know, I was thinking we might be able to meet up on Monday; my sister most likely will be working anyway. What's your Monday like? We catch the train in the afternoon, and it takes all night (literally) to get to SF. I need to do my itinerary... Anyway, I can call you when we're there, too.

Oh, no, my Monday is totally booked up with all my usual activities, there is absolutely no way I could ever get away!

Ha ha, only kidding. I'm sure you couldn't have guessed.

Yes, I'm sure I could get away on Monday. Let me know. Where are you staying, your sister's? I can't remember where that is. I'm sure we could meet up somewhere, like downtown or something and have brunch or lunch or whatever.

good. we have to be at the train station at 1, so i think brunch or lunch downtown would be best. she's up on 66th or 60th not too far out of downtown; it will be easy for us to ride down there! i will call you on sunday.

Ok, cool. Hopefully you won't be too dead from the ride. But if you are, that's cool. But yeah, I'll meet you down there on Monday and I'll try to think of someplace good to go to eat or something.

is there a post office right downtown?

(also, i like that one place we always go for brunch.)

I know there is one up by PSU, but that's way at the top of downtown, and Union Station is at the bottom. Or maybe Union Station is the top and PSU is the bottom. Probably more like, since PSU is south, but somehow I think of it as the top. Um, doesn't matter though. But there may be one closer to the middle of downtown, too, I'll look. Oh yes, there is a central post office right in downtown. Nice.

And I don't remember what place you are talking about that we always go to. Or maybe you always go to it, but not with me, and I wasn't included in the "we." Don't know. But I was thinking of this one place, the Bijou Cafe which has really good breakfast, and probably good lunch, too. Also it is by Stumptown Coffee which has the absolute best coffee ever. Yum.

yes, bijou cafe. i'm pretty sure i went there with you the first time, but maybe with my sister the second time. i like it! but i don't remember the coffee being particularly strong, so we may need to supplement.

we aim to mail our sleeping bags and foam thingers back to seattle from pdx since we are staying in a hotel in sf.

I know I've gone there, but I couldn't remember if I'd gone there with you. But yes, we may need to supplement by going over to Stumptown. I never get to go to Stumptown, so I'll probably go whether you want to or not, so there!

That is probably a good idea about mailing some stuff back. Who wants to cart that around?

Are you going to be carting all your luggage with you downtown and have to drag it around as we flit about? That might not be fun. But we'll figure it out. Maybe you can check it at the station first.
