This year has not proven to be very good for me so far. Case in point... tonight I got into a car accident. It snowed all day long here in Maine/NH, and on the way home, (only about 20 minutes away from home, mind you) I hit a slushy section of road. My rear tires start to slide off to the left of the road, catch the loose snow, and my car is pulled off the side of the road. That's the fine part... I can live with that. The scary and the bad part, I nearly missed a utility pole with the front of my car, but the back wasn't so lucky. The rear quarter panel struck the utility pole, and bounced off it like a pinball. My rear door is smashed, and so isn't the rear quarter panel. I was a little shook up at the scene, because it wasn't far off from being a head on collision with that pole. If that would have happened, it probably would have deployed my airbag. I wasn't going fast at all either. The speed limit was 40, and I was doing 25. Just the conditions of the road sucked terribly. A woman in a white SUV was passing me as I went off the road (in the opposite direction) and she slowed down, and I saw her backup lights come on. She backed up to me, and asked if I was ok, to which I answered yes. She asked if I had a phone, also which I said yes. I called AAA to get a wrecker out, because I couldn't get it out of the snow (it was too far down the ditch) and the metal from the fenderwell was directly on the rubber of the tire, and I didn't dare try driving it after I got pulled out. I then called the police department, and a woman police officer came out and sat behind me with her lights on, so people would slow down around the accident scene. I waited roughly a half hour to forty minutes before the flatbed truck came and picked up the car. He then took me to Miller Ford's collision center, dropped me and the car off. My dad came down to pick me up from there, and brought me home. When I got home, I called my insurance company, and filed a claim. My representative is supposed to call me back by 10a tomorrow. I'll need to get down to Miller Ford to get a rental car tomorrow morning at some point as well. I'll need to get back to work as soon as I can. I really can't afford to miss time. So yeah, car accident, the sty in my eye, the sickness... 2006 isn't being very friendly to this Mr. Heon. I hope after this first month of the new year, things will start looking up. I guess the one positive thing I can say is that I am alive, and not hurt from this accident. It could have been worse. I guess I'll chalk that up to my mad driving skills ;) Of course, if I had MAD MAD driving skills, I wouldn't have gone off the road. ANYHOO.. that's all for tonight. I'm off to bed shortly probably. That little incident made for an exhausting day.
