Doomstadt, BATTLEWORLD, Tuesday

May 10, 2016 06:00

The trip back to Doomstadt was disconcerting. Pockets of what appeared to be extreme, catastrophic violence cropped up sporadically in the domains below the stealthcraft Jessica was piloting, but nothing was as bad as Doomstadt. Jessica had intended to get back to Castle Doom, but there were some problems with that. Like pieces of a giant Ben Grimm shattered below Galactus, and what seemed to be a huge tree man breaking the castle from the inside.

Or there was the giant Doom over there punching a giant panther with a star?

"I'm guessing my intel is outdated by now," Jessica suggested.

Tony Stark (8096)
YOU THINK, JESSICA? YOU THINK?

"...what the actual hell is going on?"

Jessica Drew (16107737)
"I can only guess, but I'd say the rebellion happened," Jessica said. "This is more chaos than I would have guessed, but I guess if you're going to fight God... HOLD ON!"

Jessica had to bank the craft to get out of the way of a bunch of Thors that seemed to be flying in to join the battle. But they were picking fights with people Jessica would have guessed were on Doom's side. "This is insane."

Tony Stark (8096)
"You think?!" Tony snapped, holding on tight as he watched the confusing, full page spread style battle going on. "Is that--Black Panther?"

Jessica Drew (16107737)
"Well, he's a giant black panther... who's turning into a giant man," Jessica noted. "Is your version of Black Panther a super powerful God by some chance?"

Tony Stark (8096)
"I would not put it past T'Challa," Tony admitted.

Jessica Drew (16107737)
The giant Doom caught the giant Panther's punch, and for the first time, Jessica could see the golden gauntlet T'Challa was wearing. "He's wearing an Infinity Gauntlet! We have to stay the hell away from them."

And that's when a Thor punched a Hulk through their craft. In fairness, it was in stealth mode. The Thor thought the air was clear.

Tony Stark (8096)
Tony made a face, armor assembling around him to grab hold of Jessica so they didn't plummet to their deaths or anything. He would have to ask what the hell an Infinity Gauntlet was later.

"How do we get out of here?"

Jessica Drew (16107737)
Jessica held on for dear life while Doom punched T'Challa to a bloody pulp and then disappeared. Seconds later, the world began to shake. "Do you have one of the portal wristbands? Or can you still connect to JARVIS from here? Either way, we should be able to get a portal opened up from the shop!"

Tony Stark (8096)
He tilted his head, establishing a connection with JARVIS to get him started on that. And to find their coordinates in this messed up universe so they didn't drag one of these Thors along with them.

That would be bad.

"He's locking onto us."

Jessica Drew (16107737)
"Hopefully that happens fast, because I don't think we're going to be here much longer one way or the other," Jessica said. Below them, the quake was increasing in intensity. The zombies - ZOMBIES? - fighting some robots on the ground were collapsing and, occasionally, exploding as the ground cracked with a burst of energy.

Tony Stark (8096)
WORST. WORLD. EVER.

Sir, the calculations-- JARVIS began in Tony's helmet.

"Before we die here, J!"

Which would be when everyone's favorite AI basically went 'fuck it' and smashed the button to bring them home in a brilliant flash of light.

Jessica Drew
Moments later, they were back in Stark Industries.

"Yay. I didn't die again," Jessica said, dropping to the floor. She decided she was going to stay there. "Thanks, Tony. Thanks, JARVIS!"

Tony Stark
"I feel like my world is a vacation compared to that," Tony said, letting the armor disassemble into a neat pile.

Jessica Drew
"Well, it's not hard to beat now," Jessica said. "I'm pretty sure it was about to explode."

"I'll send probes tomorrow, just to check." She couldn't deal with confirmation today. She'd failed. And she probably hadn't stood a chance to begin with. She was exhausted.

Tony Stark
Tony sighed, resting his hand on one of the lab tables. "We're getting you a drink first. Science can wait."

And so could crippling disappointment in failure. Which Tony was an expert at.

Jessica Drew (16107737)
"I should probably also check in at the clinic to make sure I'm normal," Jessica said, pushing herself to her feet. "Tomorrow. Today is for drinks." You made sense, Tony.

Tony Stark (8096)
"I'm holding you to that, Drew."
