How to make a mermaid tail - Finding a Solution!

Sep 03, 2012 10:39

Okay, after being the "Master of Disaster" I had to come up with a solution. Everything else would mean to give up. And that was out of question.

As I already mentioned in my entry before it I decided to PAINT the scales (Kariel calls it Scalia, so you know). I already had the colours so I prepared the water test and - HUZZAH! - the colour stayed on the neoprene! I took a piece of transparent plastic and cut out three different sizes of scales and experimented with colours and techniques.

This is how my working space looks like. I assure you it's sorted chaos!

I tried to leave the neoprene natural and also tried a pink coloured version. I decided for a coloured underground and the Scalia in the middle.

So first I coloured the neoprene pink and then set the heat. I used a little heater and a normal hair dryer. It's important to do that. I don't know exactly why, but every Createx webpage tells you to do so. So I did! :P

Then I let it dry for at least 24-36 hours before I started painting the Scalia. This little work process, my dear followers, will be my own little secret for now. It took me weeks to figure out how to finally make the tail and I want it to be unique. Maybe I'll share my secrets one day, but I think every mermaid has a grotto with hidden things in it. This is mine. I hope you understand.
