Yesterday was a blast! Matt and I had the day off, so we got together with all of our friends and drove out to Novi to check out all the little Japanese shops and eateries. There aren't a lot, but we hit them all and had a great time doing it. We stopped at Hippo bakery first and loaded up an pastries. I tried a choco-coronet, cream filled melon bread, and the chocolate turtle bun. Matt tried the curry bun, and it was amazing, and has given me an idea as to what to do with left-over curry. We then headed to Cafe Mirai, where I was able to pick up a book about Japanes cooking, as well as birthday presents for Rosie, who's turning 2 in a few days. Everyone got a little something.
Then it was onward to One World Market, a Japanese grocery store, where Matt and I stocked up on those hard-to-find ingredients that make Japanese cooking really stand out. We finished up our day trip with dinner at Ajishin, a restaurant that focuses on noodles and sushi. They were surprisingly affordable. I was able to get a huge bowl of curry soba and hot green tea for $6.50! (Did I mention that I love curry?) Most Japanese restaurants are really pricey, because the food is considered exotic, so Ajishin was a real treat.
We head back to the apartment where we chilled out for a bit, and head out to a theater in Birmingham to catch the last showing of Ponyo. It was definitely a cute movie, and I will watch it again, but it is not my favorite Studio Ghibli film. Still, it was visually a very beautiful movie, and the characters were really adorable. Then it was back to our apartment for a relaxing night, and eventually bed.
In not so cool news, the gal messaged me to say that she couldn't get the doll in the mail. So now I'm looking at Friday delivery. Yeah. I'm none too happy about this. And she better not wait till Saturday to ship, because the holiday weekend means she wouldn't get here till Tuesday! Seriously! This is just turning in to joke now! Also, I'm feeling pretty icky. My allergies hit like a ton of bricks, and I'd just as rather spend the entire night in bed than have to go to work.
