Question...

A brief sewing question...

I'm sewing some fabric placemats tonight. I'm torn regarding whether or not to use interfacing. The fabric is thin and silky, but there will be three layers of it, if I use interfacing I'd also be adding another layer of fabric as well. If it holds it's shape, is it necessary for it to be stiff?

If it's going to be used all the time then interfacing would proberbly be best. it isn't necissarily needed. But to make it more easier to move about and to make sure it doesn't loose it's shape I would go for the interfacing. But sure you could use either way. rember to post when you've finished

Second on the interfacing.

It will do two things:

1) make the silky material easier to work with.

2) Lay flat when you're using it

Also wise to put a spray of scotchguarding on it to keep it from staining if you want to use it more than one time.

Thirding the interfacing, I think for placemats it'll be a great help as even 3 layers of thin fabric could still be quite floppy.

I agree that interfacing will bring structure to the silky fabric. Go with the interfacing, and the scotch gard!
