Rather, this is a bittersweet and complex fic about friendships and relationships and the limbo in between. Lightening the tone are fantastic moments of humour and some of the best dialogue out there.

"Trouble in paradise?"
Joe snorts, "Lord of the fucking Flies, man."
"And who would you be in that scenario?"
Andrew and Joe stare at Jesse.
"What?" he says, "I was just trying to fully understand the analogy."
Andrew looks down at his beer, sighing dramatically. "Sometimes, I forget what a nerd you are and there you go reminding me again."
"I don't know who I am," Joe says, "But you, Jesse, you're Simon. Pure of heart. One of a kind."
Andrew's brows knit together. "Isn't it Simon who dies first?"
Jesse takes a gulp of his beer and laughs. He wets his lips. "Indeed, he is."
"So," Andrew starts, "what we've learned here is that things are stormy with you and Ellen and if it doesn't resolve itself-"
"-Jesse's going to die," Joe finishes.
"Well, in that case, work it the fuck out. My life is on the line here."
Joe throws a thumb up in Jesse's direction, "No guarantees," he smiles, "Not a one."
