Why this must be read: Because sometimes it’s fanfic that has to give us a dose of reality. How often do we see Blair or Jim (or Simon) injured in one episode, only to bounce back by the next? It’s necessary for the quick pace of the show, but not particularly plausible.
“Mercy” starts after the series ends, with Blair deciding to become a detective and attending the police academy. Simon lets everyone know that the family of someone Major Crimes has busted is rumored to be seeking revenge. The obvious target is Jim, but it’s Blair who’s taken. What follows is a nightmare of false leads, recriminations and long-lasting repercussions.
In the author’s notes for “Hunted”, my last recommendation, Rimilod says she was inspired by a paragraph in “Mercy”. What you’ll find here are many paragraphs that make up a dark, deep and ultimately satisfying story.
