Hi Friends,
So after writing my last very sad song, I wanted to try and write something a little bit more upbeat and funny. Truth be told, what I started to write was another sad tune but I put that away and FORCED myself to write something lighter. This is based on a comment by my friend, Nate (of Nate and Kate), he mentioned at one of his recent solo shows that he and Kate were given a chicken at a festival, and I got to me thinking. And so, here's is my next song, enjoy.

The Chicken Song by Cyndi M. (8/2010)
Well I am just a traveling man, and music is my life
I sing at fairs and festivals making harmony with my wife
We make a decent living, our payments all the same
Its not about just what we earn, that's nothing we would change
Well, except for this one time...you see...
An invitation came one day for my wife and I
To play our tunes and sing our songs in the mountains of Big Sky
Although no fee was mentioned, we went there anyway
We set up camp and found the stage and blew the crowd away
The MC beckoned us backstage and so we followed him
He said he had our payment though the takings had been slim
No coin, no gold, no currency, no percentage from the gate
Instead he passed along a large brown feather spewing crate
They could have given us some fruit, we would had made a pie
Some homemade bread, a couple of eggs, that would have satisfied
Vegetables or nuts and seeds would helped to fill the void
But a live talking chicken....can anyone say ANNOYED
Yes, that's right, it was a chicken...a LIVE chicken and...it....spoke
“Hello my name is Hen-ry, and I come from places far
I am quite intelligent, and I can ever drive a car
Educated at Cornell, I love to dance and sing
And if you get me out of this, I'll give you anything”
Anything, we asked. Yes, anything, he said. Well, the wife and I talked about it for a while, and then we said....
Although we have no riches, no big house and no plane
My wife and I have something more, we share each others name
Though we appreciate the thought, because we're so hungry
What we would like is a great big tub of steaming KFC
And with that the chicken vanished and its place was a great big bucket of hot Kentucky Fried Chicken, with mashed potatoes, cole slaw, biscuits and gravy. Yummy.
So let the morale of our tale slowly now unfurl
If you are with the one you love, then you have the world
They say that two birds in the bush is less than one in hand
But 7 herbs and spices makes the best chick in the land
