Katrina: A Rant Against the Bystanders

Im tired of hearing people gossip about Katrina, have you heard this, have you seen such and such, can you believe that, can you imagine what it is like? no. no you cannot, none of us can. donate, help, volunteer, but dont try to put yourself in those peoples shoes because you cannot, neither can i. ive seen mass destruction, looting, food lines,

I think some tornado victims and tsunami victims have a better chance at understanding than we do. A lot of times putting yourself in their shoes is a way to show how much you care.

tsunami victims, yes i could agree with that. tornado victims, no. while you may lose power, have property damage, loss of life, you can still drive 2-4 miles in any direction to find civilization and sanity. and as for trying to put yourself in their shoes, thats just presumptuous. sympathy for those in need is one thing, but to try to think that someone not involved in such a situation can fully grasp that situation mentally and physically just does not make sense.

Then writing non-fiction doesn't make any sense. By your argument how can someone dare to explain a true situation with pathos if they didn't actually experience it?

I think you're being too critical of others attempts to understand the situation. No one is going to react the same way as anyone else.

ANd since you have never been in a tornado, only been around them you wouldnt know what it is like to be in one, so dont presume to know the damage and destruction and the mental strain on people who have been in one. Your arguement for the hurricane goes the same way with your perception of tornados. Beside I have a feeling this has nothing to do with the hurricane, you doing alright man?
