This Friday just passed was the Welcome Back LUSA Cabaret, which involved much screaming, dancing, and alcohol. No alcohol for me, though. Well, I had a vodka special. And when I went to buy one for Patrick and myself, some guy tried to chat me up, which rarely happens but makes me SO VERY AWKWARD when it does, and Patrick totally had to defend my honour. He just sort of stood behind me with crossed arms and a "BITE ME" expression that was all totes masc, so take that anyone who thinks gay men can't pull that shit off. And the guy, whose name I forgot two seconds later but it turns out it was Kurt, was all "Is that your boyfriend?" and I was like "No" because my first instinct is never to lie and then I was all fuck, I should have said he was, so then I was like "BUT I DO HAVE A BOYFRIEND IN SASKATOON" which is true, but Kurt gave me this look like yeah, right and then said "Oh, yeah, I see how it is" and then I grabbed the vodka specials and hid in some corner chairs with Patrick and drowned my anxiety in alcohol. Delicious, lime tasting alcohol. And then he cut into a group of Patrick, Shelby, Terryn and I dancing, and Patrick was kept busy cutting in every time Kurt tried to grind any of us girls until Kurt finally gave up with a drunken glare.
Besides Patrick gaining the new job of Defender of the Honour / Rescuer of Awkward Social Situations, we also had to work the door and then help clean up for a bit afterwards. This would have been fine, if only one of our highly intoxicated friends hadn't decided that it would be a good idea to walk home. From a sketchy area in town. To Luther. At one in the morning. So then it was stressed-out searching time until we heard back from Luther that he'd been found and was alright. Then Patrick took me home to Luther where I prepared for bed until, shortly after two, the fire alarm went off. The entirety of the dorm spent probably around fifteen minutes freezing in our pajamas out in the parking lot before Campus Security let us in to the Kinesiology Building for another forty-five minutes. I didn't get to bed until well after three and had to get up at eight the next morning to go to S'toon town.
On Saturday, I pretty much just did a bunch of homework. Oh, and Master and Commander was on TV. That's a good movie. And my voice was pretty hoarse and squeaky. I woke up on Sunday only able to whisper. This was very distressing, as I was meeting Sarah for coffee that afternoon and, having not seen each other since January, we had a lot of catching up to do. Luckily, I got enough of my voice back to croak and wheeze at her for two hours. Despite my resemblance to a demon, we had a wonderful time, though we still have much catching up to do. Talking to her, I realize that I really miss Sarah, and so I hereby vow, with all of you as witnesses, to keep in better contact with her. I would hate myself if I let our friendship die out through neglect on my end when it has been such a strong part of my life for nearly thirteen years.
That night, being my mother's birthday, my Grandma and Nolan came over to the house and we had pizza. I was gonna say we made pizza, but really my dad did most of the making. He was almost compulsive about it, actually. He wouldn't sit until every pizza was done.
Which brings us to today. This morning, I got my braces off. I AM SO EXCITED, GUYS. I CAN RUN MY TONGUE OVER MY TEETH AND IT FEELS AWESOME. It also is a really weird feeling, though. Anyways, I then had a appointment with my brand new, young, funny, and friendly dentist. I know those are rarely words used to describe a dentist, but what can I say. I like the guy. He's much better than my old dentist who was more...typical of the profession. Then I went back to the orthodontist to get my retainers, and now my teeth are hella sore, but I'm mostly too excited about not having braces to care much.
I went in to WMCI to get Catherine after school and got huggle attacked by Bronwyn (as in, half of Bronemily) and then Sophie (as in, the Emily half of Bronemily's younger sister) made fun of my lisp (a temporary symptom of the new retainer) and I was all "WHATEVER, SOPHIE. IT'S FINE. I JUST HAVE A SEAN CONNERY ACCENT NOW, WHICH IS TOTALLY BAD ASS. YEAH. IT'S FINE." It was very mature of me.
And now I'm on a bus back to Regina (yeah, right now - free WiFi on the bus is the BEST THING EVER). My teeth are hurting in earnest now, but I can run my teeth across them and feel only smoothness and I have tylonel waiting for me in my dorm room so we're ALL GOOD. And I kind of keep drooling (another temporary symptom) and I can still only croak words and my nose is running and I keep coughing, so I'm pretty sure I'm gonna keep these two seats all to myself for this whole trip. There are a few good things about colds.
