I ended up writing the following diatribe on the forums earlier today in a thread about being in your early-20's and feeling like your life is directionless. It really hit home with me and the post I ended up writing sounded very whiny and pathetic, so I figured it was the perfect thing to stick on a livejournal:

"I should graduate (given I dont ( Read more... )

I feel like this. All the time.

On a less depressing note. We were thinking of you the other day. We were at the theatre in Methuen and we were like 'Hey we used to see Dave here all the time.' Pointless? Yes.

Ah, I envy you, though. You did manage to move out of your parents and ended up finding a great guy who you eventually married (even if he does have the stereotypical intensely gay boston-baseball obsession) so on that note you did very well for yourself even if you did not graduate college (I'm assuming this, even, I don't know if you didn't graduate for sure)

And if you end up seeing the midnight releases of Hellboy 2 or the dark knight, i'll probably be at those depending on what my sleep schedule looks like.

I appreciate the sentiment. Those things are true, and I am glad of them, but I've been going to school for... well longer than I'd really like to admit. I'm certainly feeling too old to still be a freaking undergrad who likely will not graduate for at least another four semesters. So you'll have your degree before me! That's something to be proud of! :D Sorry, I didn't mean to get all whiny in your journal. I think I was trying to make more of a 'yeah, I totally understand where you're coming from and sympathize' comment.

We haven't considered doing a midnight of Hellboy, but I know we're seeing Dark Knight at midnight at the IMAX so sadly we will miss you for that one.

It's good to hear anyway. Though I do have a suprising number of friends still who havent gone to/graduated college, and a great many that still live at home, I still feel very oddly alone in this.

But, were I you, id consider it for Hellboy. I don't know if you read the comics or anything (theyre fantastic) but so far it has a 100% on rottentomatoes.com, which is ridiculous. I mean, I know it hasn't come out yet so its only got 10 or so reviews, but I still consider it a herald that Hellboy 2 is the movie the first one shouldve been (a movie that someone other than me enjoys)

If you're a good student then youll be fine. The thing about jobs these days is it doesn't seem to matter what your major is--my girlfriend graduated with her degree in Jewelry metals and was able to qualify for a slew of accounting jobs. From what ive seen, alot of people end up with degrees in fanciful fields like these, end up finding a job that has nothing to do with their field, and then accumulate enough money or time to where they can replace it as a career later in life as opposed to right off the bat. This is provided you can't do it right off the bat, which is still possible.

Hmm...well, i guess that is comforting...

i'm sure you'll find your way soon enough..maybe just take something in school that you're actually interested in and want to learn about? though i guess its kind of too late now, eh?
