Thanksgiving is an interesting holiday in the United States in that it is a wholly-secular holiday that neatly fits into any religious, historical, or even philosophical inclination that a person might have.  It is also the only holiday that is two days long, being the last Thursday and Friday of the month of November.  None of the other holidays ( Read more... )

In 2000, when we moved into our house, J. was home Halloween night while I had work or something going on.  I helped decorate previously, of course, but the actual distribution of candy was hers and she kept track of how much went out - over 350 pieces worth.  The described the streets as choked with kids in costume and the porch lights of houses ( Read more... )

Michigan weather continues to disappoint, with regards to celestial phenomena.  The total Lunar eclipse this morning was obscured by clouds, as a small winter storm moves into the area to sprinkle an inch or two of snow on the region.  The Boy was very disappointed that he did not get to see it - though I do have pictures of one such eclipse from ( Read more... )

About a week ago Bright Eyes was sitting on his mother's lap and looked up at the full length mirror on the closet door in the bedroom.  He smiled when he saw his mommy's reflection and did his usual happy wiggle (a cross between a hop and a torso twist), when it became apparent that he realized that there was a baby in the mirror, apparently ( Read more... )

Well, Christmas came and the boys made out like bandits. Mom did really well, too, my brothers and I have been talking about buying here a new TV for a while and the opportunity presented itself this year.
