4.) in Seoul, you're not the only foreigner you'll see, by any means, so most people are more used to it. depending on how you look, you might get stares... especially people with darker skin may have Koreans get up and move away from them on the subway, or be visibly intimidated/curious. in a small village, you'll probably be subject to a lot of open curiosity. for the most part, people have been very kind to me--shop owners will fish out whatever rusty English they possess (some more than others), if you stand in a subway and stare blankly at a map, you may even find yourself escorted to your destination by a concerned citizen. on the other hand, I've had two women come up to me and ask me, in all apparent seriousness, if I am male or female. this may possibly be because I am tall, have short, dyed hair, and they may have mistaken me for a Korean boy from the back, so it could have just been old biddies attempting to scold a Korean boy for bleaching his hair, not directed at my ethnicity. either way, it wasn't very flattering to be questioned.
