Farewell, dear laptop, you served me well

My laptop has died. The hard drive has been making some funky noises for awhile now and I could not close the screen because the keyboard thing was warped; yesterday morning, while writing a screenplay (I know, huh?) it froze; shut down by itself and then restarted. Kevin tossed me his jump drive and I transferred files immediately. Lucky thing too, because the next time I tried to start it the screen stayed black for a few minutes before the message "Operating system cannot be found..." appeared. The words of darkness.

The only thing I truly lost was all of my music. But as I have dug out my box of CDs, I can listen to my music the old fashioned way; on a CD player.

After three straight snow days, I have winter vacation! Woo-hoo!! The only downer is that I'm looking at three days that I'll have to make up at some point. Stupid state requirements.

I'm pretty sure that although this is going to be another weird Christmas, I'm still excited about it. (Last Christmas, if I may be permitted to reminisce, was spent in a hotel in Walla Walla with Christmas dinner at Shari's). This Christmas will be spent in Graham with Dad, Randi, Donny, Erin, Aunt Gennie, Uncle Mike, Cousin Mikey (who has been mysteriously absent from all family communica for the last several years) and maybe Mom. At least I know that the latter part of Christmas day will be normal- at Grandma and Grandpa's with a house FULL of my Dad's side and good food all around. Ah, chaotic bliss, I revere you.

On a note that is in no way related to any of the above; Kevin and I spent the evening at his Oma's in Battle Ground. She has the BEST stories about growing up during BOTH World Wars in Germany. She immigrated here after WWII and her insider stories are incredible. Some of them are pretty horrific, others are fun and light and all of them are so illuminating. Like how her father openly spoke out against Hitler and the troubles it caused the family; also how they hid Jews during the war. Its incredible! Much better than my Grandpa's stories about WWII- like how he was "stabbed by a Japanese soldier in Pearl Harbor" (ie, he had his appendix taken out AFTER the war and was stationed in Pearl Harbor AFTER the attack). :) That's still a good story though...
