OK, I lied. This week has been mostly uneventful =P. I took my brother to the Sharks home opener this week. I've never been to an NHL playoff game (tried to go last season, but wasn't able to get tickets), but I'd wage a guess that the atmosphere before the game (vs. Columbus) was playoff-tastic. The Sharks had a really cool pre-game showing to get the crowd excited. They showed highlights of last season, especially from the playoff run (including the famous Jonathan Cheechoo goal where he shoots the puck from between his legs and past Colorado goaltender David Aebischer). They also showed these huge photos of the players on the ice. It's hard to describe (I took photos, they came out mostly ok. I wish I had waited for the goalie photos though, because the masks looked really great in the on-ice photos).
The game was awesome - the new rules allow for a lot of speed and flow to the game. Sharks dominated, and had Blue Jackets' goaltender Marc Denis not been as sharp as he was, the game could have been a blowout. I dislike the fact that the officials are calling as many penalties as they are because that disrupts the flow of the game, and because the penalties/new rules make hitting all but impossible, but it's fun seeing the skaters do their thing. As it was, Sharks won 4-1, always good.
Before the game, the Sharks had a fan fest set up near the Tank. I got to sit on a zamboni (first time ever) that had Sharks players painted on it. Also saw a fire engine painted with a shark (the animal, not a player). Also had my photo taken by a San Jose Mercury photographer (smartly, the picture wasn't run - don't think my face would have helped the Merc sell papers =P). Picture was taken when I was in line, looking through the program. I heard some clicks to my left, looked up, saw this woman with a massive camera and press pass. She introduced herself, said she was with the Mercury news, asked how to spell my name and where I was from.
Friday I went up to San Francisco to take a tour of SBC Park. It was cool - I got to go in the visitors' dugout and clubhouse, into some suites, and walk on part of the field (the warning track around home plate). Also got photos from there (but of course), and got a free media guide from our tour guide for answering a trivia question correctly =). I hung out with Ben after. We bummed around, saw the Metreon, just kicked it for a few hours. Today (Saturday) I went with Daniel to the disappointing Cal-OSU game. Poorly played game by both teams (I think there was a total of 9 or 10 turnovers, lots of penalties, too), and Cal losing (23-20 final) didn't make matters worse. I got progressively more immature as the game wore on. OSU, being the Beavers, lent themselves to many jokes. The most common one would be when they ran, because the PA guy would go "Yvenson Bernard, the Beaver ball carrier". The last part cracked me up. Or if a Cal running back got tackled by multiple OSU players, I'd remark "he ran into a wall of Beaver. IT's just too much Beaver for one man to handle". Yes, I'm about 7 years old =P. And apparently Daniel and I got on TV after one of Cal's TD's.
This week I started working as a grader near my house. I'm only working 5-10 hours a week there for $8/hour. It's nice having a source of extra income (remember, I still tutor 2 hours a week for $20 per hour). Monday I start working with ESL kids (teaching/tutoring), and hopefully I will also work with ESL adults. I'm nervous about it, I've never worked with ESL students, but we'll see what happens.
So far I have no clue how I did on the LSAT. Part of me wishes I cancelled my score, not because I think/know I did badly, but because I have no idea how I did (and I'm worried that I did worse than the first time around). It's too late now, but it's not fun thinking about how I may have done. I generally try to avoid thinking about it and am mostly successful, but every now and then...I really have to write to UW and UCD to ask them to send my transcripts to LSAC and get crackin on some essays...
*Edit: I'm right now looking to get a digital camera. The camera I have now is nice, but I spend tons of money on developing film, and I never know how the photos turn out before that. And, keep in mind I like to put photos on my comp (and put them online). I'm hoping to get a camera with 3.2 or more megapixels, good optical zoom (3+), and with a display so I can see how the photos turn out (either before snapping or right after taking them). Also hoping to get a camera I could add memory to in order to store more photos. Only problem is I'm somewhat cheap (I'm hoping not to spend more than $150 on the camera itself). I'm right now looking through ebay and craigslist, will look at stores as well. But if anyone reads this and can recommend a good camera, I'm all ears.
