So The Drama

So today has been filled with adventure! (Adventure, charlie, adventure~)

First thing this morning was the Quest For The Single Hole-Punch.

There's a large difference between working for a retailer or fast food place to having a desk job at an actual office.  The largest of these would be office supplies that don't, somehow, smell of urine and/or beans.  That was pleasant.  Since my job in the office involves computers and art, you can probably imagine that my sort of office supplies would differ from other persons--but it did finally come up one day that I needed a damn hole punch.

So please, someone explain to me why on earth we have five three-hole punches in various states of dysfunction, at least three two-hole punches, but not even one single-hole punch in all three buildings that we inhabit?  I spent an hour and a half tearing the offices apart for one this morning and finally had to track down and trek to a CVS to buy one for myself.  I am currently guarding it with my life.

The second adventure was the Battle of the Panasonic Printer.

Actually, this has been an on-going situation that has recently escalated into a full-blown war.  It started with the printer disliking our idea of printing the new, single-sheet table tents on both sides of single shit of paper (duplex, for those of you who have done this) and has run the mill up to the printer deciding mid-print to change it's operation standards just to spite me.  Not kidding, it really did.

So I'm once again attempting to get the printer to do double-sided printing for me on some menu inserts we're using at one of our resturant campaigns.  I know that this time I've set the file up with the appropriate margins and bleed, I've triple checked it on regular letter-sized paper and the line up matches perfectly.  Therefore there shoudl be no problem, right?

Yeah, I didn't think so either.

Well, we want to "save paper" and print at least four per large 12x18 page.  I think this is a waste, but the boss insists and she gets her way.  Only the Printer has decided that it isnt' going to print duplex on 12x18.  After a short discussion of changing paper size, we decided that figuring out how the printer would print and then flipping the pages over would be the "easiest" method.

First of all, the Printer has decided that it doesn't particularly approve of our cheating it OR the paper we're using.  Each sheet must be fed into the printer singly, because it doesn't like it when i put more than one on the tray.  Then it "Misaligns" five or six times until I wear it out and it prints the goddamn first side of the page. HOWEVER, it changed it's operation standards when I switched to the good paper.

The first print i did was on "plain" paper, in order to keep from wasting glossy. Makes sense, no? I marked the "top right" side of the paper and let it run through, figured out which direction it was printing, and then turned it over and place it down to run it on the flip side.  That worked perfectly.

However, when I put in the glossy it suddenly decided that it was going to print on the bottom instead of the top, and printed both back and front sides on one side of the paper.  One expensive sheet of glossy down.  I try it again, flipping the paper over so the printed side is on the back.  This time it prints on both sides, but they're running two different directions.  SECOND expensive sheet of paper down.

The last print I did today came out in all the right directions, but all the margins are off. Something needs to be shifted about two millimeteres one way and I'm not really sure how.

And tomorrow I get to do fifty of these.  D: I swear I will win this war, but there may yet be casualties!
