“What’s going on?” Jun asked, seeing a bunch of his employees huddling in a small circle in an empty dressing room
“Uh,” one of them responded, cringing slightly. Jun wasn’t sure of the guy’s name but he looked hesitant to say what was wrong.
“Spill it,” Jun demanded. “There must be a reason you aren’t working to stand here and talk, now what’s going on?”
“It’s Ninomiya-san again,” a young woman near the back piped up. “He offered Ohno-san a contract worth more than yours, and he’s considering taking it.”
“Are you serious?” Jun asked disbelievingly.
“Sadly I am,” the same woman answered, and Jun recognized her as Ohno’s manager.
“How does he think he can just steal my idols like that? He’s already swiped Kamenashi, Yokoyama, Sakurai, and even Yamada!” Jun exclaimed.
“Another thing,” a different man added. “Chinen-san said he’s leaving in favour of Ninomiya’s company if Ohno-san does.”
“Ohno doesn’t have any reason to leave though!” Jun protested.
“He’s getting amazing benefits and opportunities here,” one of them said. “But it seems that what Ninomiya-san offers is better.”
“Impossible,” Jun stated firmly. “Now if you’ll excuse me, I think I need to go have a little chat with Ninomiya.” Jun stalked away, feeling the eyes of his employees on him as he left.
He couldn’t believe that it happened again. Nino was in charge of the talent agency that rivaled his for a while now, and the former had already managed to tempt six of his idols, taking them away from Jun’s company. Jun didn’t really know why Nino did this, but it was really getting on his nerves more and more each time it happened. He wouldn’t lose two more of his idols to that low life, not on his watch.
Once Jun arrived at the agency, he didn’t hesitate in entering, heading up to Nino’s office without getting permission or an appointment first. He passed right by the staff members who were giving him awkward greetings, and not even acknowledging the sight of a couple of his own previous idols, whose eyes went wide at the sight of him.
“Wait Matsumoto-san you can’t go in there!” The secretary said, her attempts to block his entrance futile.
“Well well, if it isn’t Matsumoto Juno. I’ve been expecting you,” Nino said with a smirk as Jun burst into the office.
“Ninomiya Kazunari,” Jun bit out, staring him down. He hardly noticed that there was another presence in the room.
“I’m sorry, but if you hadn’t noticed I’m in meeting right now.” Jun’s eyes widened as the man in question turned around and met his gaze.
“Ohno-kun,” Jun said in surprise. Ohno’s eyes widened as he bowed deeply.
“Matsumoto-san,” he greeted, voice shaking slightly.
“Ohno-kun what are you doing here?” Jun asked, trying to keep his voice even. Ohno opened his mouth to respond but Nino interrupted him.
“He’s having a meeting with me obviously,” he leant forward, tapping a pen to his lip. “Didn’t he tell you? He’s considering signing my contract and dropping yours.” He smirked again as the rage slowly built inside of Jun.
“Ohno-kun the meeting is over,” Jun stated, not taking his eyes off Nino.
“But,”
“Get back to work,” he bit out. Ohno fell silently, bowing before leaving the office. The smirk disappeared from Nino’s face, leaving a frown.
“Now was that really necessary?” He asked with a slightly playful tone. Jun growled.
“What exactly do you think you’re doing?” He asked loudly. “Why do you insist on stealing my idols?”
“Lower your voice Jun-kun,” Nino said. “And Ohno-kun was technically mine first, I was the one who brought him there and he only stayed with you after we split because my new company wasn’t quite stable.”
“Bullshit,” Jun growled. “He stayed with me because he wanted to, and now you’re trying to take him away!”
“It isn’t my fault he isn’t loyal to you.”
“He would be!” Jun exclaimed. “If you hadn’t manipulated him with your little contract he wouldn’t even be considering leaving my company!”
“Calm down,” Nino rolled his eyes. “It’s not like he agreed.”
“What do you mean?” Jun asked. “Why was he just here then?”
“He was here to turn my offer down.” Nino snapped, finally standing up to face Jun. “He told me he was loyal to your company, alright? Does that make you happy?”
“Slightly,” Jun said, feeling slightly relieved. “But you have so many of my idols already, so why must you jeep trying? I get it, okay Nino? I get that you’re bitter about our fight, but it wasn’t my fault!” Nino glared at him.
“So it was my fault that we fell out?” He asked angrily.
“It sure as hell wasn’t mine!” Jun exclaimed loudly.
“It was more so yours than mine.”
“Nino please,” Jun shook his head. “You ruined it by confessing and then leaving when I didn’t respond how you wanted me to!” Nino froze, avoiding Jun’s gaze.
“I was willing to keep working with you,” Jun continued, lowering his voice.
“Tell me Jun,” Nino bit out. “How am I supposed to continue working with you after you rejected me? There’s no fucking way, at least I still have my pride.”
“Not really,” Jun scoffed, shaking his head. “Nino you lack the proper maturity to handle this, that’s why you left!”
“Who are you to tell me that I’m immature?” Nino asked scathingly. “Need I bring up the time that you refused to speak to me just because I went behind your back and signed Aiba-kun when you didn’t think he had what it takes?”
“That was different,” Jun scoffed again. “I didn’t split from the company because of that either.” Nino sat back down behind his desk, sighing deeply.
“I’m sorry, okay?” He muttered. “I’m sorry that I acted like such an idiot, and I’m sorry for taking your idols and trying to take Ohno-kun.” Jun stared at him disbelievingly. Somehow that apology had seemed genuine, which really confused Jun. Why would Nino suddenly be apologizing now? Then again, he did seem to be a master of deceit so there was really no saying of whether he was lying or not. Jun felt drained, not wanting to fight him anymore.
“Apology accepted,” he sighed, voice a bit softer than it had been before. Nino put his head in his hands, looking miserable.
“I wish it hadn’t turned out this way,” Nino said softly.
“You didn’t have to leave,” Jun insisted. “We could have put this behind us, and continued working together!”
“Did you consider that if I wanted that, I would’ve stayed?” Nino asked. “But I didn’t Jun. I didn’t want to just forget about it!” Jun didn’t know why, but his heart rate began to accelerate as he stared at Nino.
“Nino,” he murmured, approaching the desk slowly. “Do you still have feelings for me?”
“No,” he answered immediately. Jun could see the signs that he was lying in his expression. Jun’s heart throbbed with almost pity for him. Jun knew first hand that it was not easy to be rejected.
“I’m sorry too,” Jun said, surprising himself.
“What are you sorry for?” Nino scoffed, running a hand through his hair.
“Everything,” Jun shrugged. “For getting scared when I shouldn’t have.”
“What do you mean?” Nino asked after a pause.
“Never mind,” Jun dismissed, letting out a sigh.
“No Jun,” Nino said, looking at him curiously. “What do you mean by scared?”
“I wasn’t ready,” Jun admitted hesitantly. “I like you Nino… I just didn’t want to risk it.” Nino stared up at him, surprise written on his face.
“You had better not be screwing with me,” Nino warned.
“I wouldn’t joke about this…” Jun trailed off. “I’m sorry Nino.”
“You’ve got to be kidding me!” Nino exclaimed. “Why the hell are you telling me this now?”
“I,” Jun started, pausing. “I don’t like how this is turning out.” Nino stood up again abruptly, staring him down.
“I can’t believe you’re doing this now.”
“Answer me please,” Jun tried again. “Do you still like me?” The silence in the air hung thick as they just stared at each other. Jun knew that his proclamation didn’t exactly have much thought behind it, but he also knew that he wasn’t lying. He had been repressing feelings for Nino for a while now. Jun didn’t know when he realized it, but it had been eating away at him for a while. A knock on the door interrupted the tense atmosphere. Jun let out a breath he hadn’t realized he had been holding.
“Ninomiya-san, is everything okay in there?” A female voice called in hesitantly. Nino’s eyes didn’t leave Jun as he responded.
“Everything is fine Satomi-chan, we just need a few more minutes.”
“So what do you think?” Jun asked after another moment of silence.
“About what?”
“This,” Jun gestured. “I want to work with you again Nino, this has been going on for way too long.
“What if it doesn’t work?” Nino asked quietly.
“We just have to take it a day at a time,” Jun replied. “Start by rejoining the companies, and see where our relationship goes from there?” Nino looked up at him, nodding slightly. Jun stuck out his hand.
“Is it a deal?” Nino took Jun’s hand, shaking it with a smile brightening up his face.
“It’s a deal.” Jun grinned back, throwing his arm over Nino’s shoulder.
“We need to celebrate the rebirth of the Matsumiya talent agency after two years, meet me at my place later?”
“Sure thing,” Nino nodded. “I’ll see you there.” Giving one last nod, Jun strode out of the office, ignoring the shocked look of the secretary as he headed through the halls.
He had a feeling that they would be just fine.
