Summary: Junno and Nakamaru set their friends up Kame and Ueda on a blind date

“Come on Kazuya, please? It will be fun!” Junno pleaded.  Kame looked at him, doubt written on his face.
“A blind date? Junno I’m not sure about this.”
“He’s really good friends with my boyfriend,” he continued. “I’ve met him Kazuya, I think you’ll like him.”
“Why should I go out with this Ueta guy?” Kame asked, sipping at his coffee. He was about to continue but Junno interrupted him.
“Ueda,” he corrected.
“Whatever,” Kame rolled his eyes. “I’m doing just fine being single, I don’t your help finding a date.” Junno looked at him incredulously.
“Are you serious?” Kazuya you’ve constantly been whining about being single ever since Akanishi dumped you!” Kame opened his mouth, but shut it again with a pout, folding his arms over his chest.
“And your point is?” Junno laughed.
“He’s single, you’re single; my point is why not give it a chance?”
“Because it’s too weird,” Kame complained.
“What’s so weird about it?” Junno asked. “People go on blind dates all the time.”
“I don’t,” Kame deadpanned, finishing off his coffee.
“Please Kazuya? I’m trying to do you a favour here, Tatsuya is amazing!” Kame bit back his retort, wondering if he should just give in. He knew Junno wouldn’t give up until he did, and hell maybe it would even be fine. Kame sighed tiredly.
“You promise he won’t kill me and leave me in a ditch somewhere?” Kame asked suspiciously, cracking a smile. Junno laughed loudly.
“I promise he wouldn’t, as long as you don’t get on his bad side.” He gave a cheeky grin.
“Fine,” Kame sighed in exasperation. “You can set it up.” Junno smiled brightly, getting his phone out.
“Thanks Kazuya, you won’t regret it!”

--

“Tatsuya please stop being so stubborn,” Nakamaru demanded. Ueda rolled his eyes for the umpteenth time.
“Why don’t you?” He bit back lazily, scratching his dog behind the ears.
“Because I just got a text from Junno saying that Kazuya already agreed,” Nakamaru said impatiently. Ueda sighed, standing up to stretch.
“Yuichi you know I don’t do the blind dating thing,” Ueda shook his head.
“Tatsuya you’ve been sitting around here moping for so long,” Nakamaru protested. “Why don’t you get back out there?”
“Because I don’t want to,” Ueda stated flatly.
“You shouldn’t even be moping so much,” Nakamaru sighed. “You are the one who broke up with Tanaka, and that was so long ago too.”
“He was cheating on me,” Ueda muttered, pacing across the living room.
“Right, and I can assure you that Kazuya wouldn’t do that.” Ueda shook his head.
“Yuichi stop it. Aren’t you going a little too far? I haven’t even agreed!”
“Come on Tatsuya, what could go wrong?”
“Uh, a lot?” He responded sarcastically.
“Be realistic,” Nakamaru chided. “Worst case scenario is that the date goes badly, and if that’s the case you’ll never have to see him again.” Ueda sighed again, knowing his friend would not likely give up.
“Do I have to?” He whined despondently, plopping back down on the couch.
“Yes,” Nakamaru nodded.
“Fine,” Ueda snapped. “You can set it up, but if this date goes badly you owe me big time.”
“It’s a deal.”

--

“This is exciting,” Junno said enthusiastically, trying to keep his voice low.
“Shh,” Nakamaru shushed him. “They should get here soon.”
“I still can’t believe we got them to agree,” Junno mumbled. “I hope the date goes well.” Nakamaru just nodded, continuing to watch the door. Nakamaru glanced around, taking in the environment of the place. Junno certainly had good taste. They were sitting in a private booth in a casual restaurant, yet it gave off the feeling of being sophisticated.  He felt kind of bad about spying on Kame and Ueda’s first date, but both of them couldn’t help but be interested in how it would turn out. They both hoped they could make a good connection between Kame and Ueda.
“There’s Kazuya,” Nakamaru said as he spotted the young man. Junno turned to look.
“He’s dressed up,” Junno noted. “And he looks…nervous?” They watched as Kame approached the hostess at her podium like thing.
“Uh, I have a reservation for two under Kamenashi?” He told her nervously. The woman smiled pleasantly at him.
“Yes of course, right this way Kamenashi-san.” The hostess led a very nervous looking Kame to a table near the one he and Junno were sitting at. They were in a good spot, able to hear what was going on without possibly being spotted.
“Where’s Tatsuya?” Junno asked, voice practically a whisper. Nakamaru shrugged.
“I told him when and where to meet Kazuya, but he is usually late.”
“Oh! Speak of the devil,” Junno whispered excitedly, nodding towards the door. Nakamaru looked over to see Ueda wandering in, looking nonchalant.  With a silent groan, Nakamaru noted that Ueda hadn’t put much effort into dressing up. He knew the date wouldn’t go well if Ueda wasn’t trying, no matter how hard Kame did. Ueda looked confident as he approached the hostess.
“Good evening sir, how may I help you?” She greeted politely.
“Uh yeah,” Ueda responded. Nakamaru was surprised to hear the small hitch in Ueda’s voice; he actually did seem nervous!
“I’m here for a reservation under the name Kamenashi?” He said, seeming to find a new fascination with the floor.
“Are you Ueda-san?”
“Yes I am.”
“Wonderful, right this way sir.” Nakamaru could sense Junno tense from across the table as Ueda passed them, running a hand through his spiked black hair. His eyes darted around nervous, and Nakamaru was almost worried that Ueda would spot them. It would be way too embarrassing to be caught spying.
“Kamenashi-san?” Ueda questioned from nearby. Nakamaru froze, knowing the show was just about to begin.
“Yes, I’m Kamenashi Kazuya, it’s nice to meet you.”
“I’m Ueda Tatsuya,” the other responded with a nervous laugh. “You too.”
“Take a seat,” Kame invited him. Nakamaru peeked over the top of his menu so he could see what was going on. Junno was kind of at a disadvantage since he was facing away. Nakamaru could easily see what was going on, but since they were a few tables away they wouldn’t be able to hear much. Junno was tapping his fingers impatiently on the table, and Nakamaru felt the other’s intent gaze on him.
“Well, what are they doing?” Junno asked in a hushed voice.
“Nothing,” Nakamaru stated. “It doesn’t even look like they’re talking.” Junno gave a look of some sort of desperation.
“Why not?” He whined, trying to turn around so he could get a better look.
“Stop,” Nakamaru told him. “I’ll keep an eye on them. You don’t want to get seen now do you?” Junno pouted, turning back around.
“I want to know what’s going on though!”
“I know,” Nakamaru said. “I’m sorry, but I do too. And it’s too risky if we’re both sitting on this side. Kazuya might see you.” Junno just frowned, taking a sip of the water in front of him.
“That’s not fair…”
“Shh,” Nakamaru put his finger to his lips. “I think they’re talking again.” Junno promptly shut up as Nakamaru strained to listen. Ueda was making hand gestures like he usually did when he spoke, but there was no way of knowing what they were actually talking about.
“Crap,” Nakamaru sighed. “We should have gotten closer.”
“Don’t you think they’ll tell us how the date went after anyways?” Junno asked, voice low.
“True,” Nakamaru nodded. “I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.”

--

ldquo;Kazuya,” Junno greeted with a grin, walking into the café they agreed to meet at. He shed his coat, taking a seat across from Kame, who already had a cup of coffee.
“Hey Junno,” Kame grinned back.
“You seem happy today,” Junno noted. “How did the date go?” Kame smiled again, looking down at the table.
“I think it went really well,” he said. “But I’m not sure what Ueda-kun thinks.”
“I bet he liked you,” Junno’s smile grew wider.
“I don’t know for sure,” Kame replied. “But it was nice talking with someone on an intelligence level close to mine, we had a lot of good banter and conversations.” Junno nodded, feeling happy that he and Nakamaru had created a good match. He couldn’t help but wonder what Ueda did think though. Junno half listened to what Kame was saying as he whipped out his phone, planning to text his boyfriend.

Message from Taguchi to Nakamaru: Kazuya said the date went well! What does Tatsuya think?

He hit send with a grin, tuning back into what Kame was saying.
“And he was really funny too, and very nice.”
“That’s great Kazuya,” Junno replied. “When do you think you’ll see him again?”
“I don’t know,” he shrugged nonchalantly. “Hopefully soon, I want to get to know him better.”
“Didn’t I tell you?” Junno grinned. “You should have listened to me sooner.” Kame just shook his head, laughing as Junno’s phone buzzed from his pocket.

Message from Nakamaru to Taguchi: It’s no good. Tatsuya texted me and said “you owe me.”

Junno frowned at the screen.

Message from Taguchi to Nakamaru: Wait, why? Ask Tatsuya what happened, Kazuya thinks it went well!

The next response was immediate.

Message from Nakamaru to Taguchi: Roger.

--

fter Kame left, Junno stayed at the café by himself. He sipped at his cup of tea, waiting for Nakamaru to text him back. Junno knew the latter was at work, but he just wanted to know what happened with Ueda. After what Kame had told him, Junno thought the date had went really well. Why did Ueda think differently? He watched his phone, a frown etched into his face. As soon as his phone lit up with a new message, he grabbed it, hoping it was Nakamaru.

Message from Nakamaru to Taguchi: Update, Tatsuya said it felt like all he and Kazuya did was argue, what did Kazuya say?

Message from Taguchi to Nakamaru: He said that he and Ueda were bantering, and that he finally found someone on a similar intelligence level. One of them must be misunderstood.

Junno hit send with a sigh. He felt disappointed; he was hoping that Kame and Ueda would make a good match. He didn’t think the date would go wrong. But then again, why did Ueda think it was bad when Kame didn’t? Junno twiddled his thumbs, staring at his phone. He wanted to fix it. Both Junno and Nakamaru knew that they shouldn’t be meddling, but KameDa had a lot of potential. Junno squinted. Did he really just think “KameDa?” He shook his head with a sigh, picking up his phone as it vibrated again.

Message from Nakamaru to Taguchi:  Maybe Tatsuya misunderstood, but Kazuya might have as well. I’ll talk to him.

Junno slipped his phone back in his pocket with a sigh. Of course there was a chance that Kame was at fault, but why would he be? Even if what Ueda had said was true, it wasn’t as if Kame was trying to fight with Ueda. It must have been Ueda that misunderstood, that much was obvious. Junno left a tip on the table, leaving the café. Hopefully they would sort it all out, and maybe they could salvage a possible relationship between the two of them.
“They just got off on the wrong foot,” Junno told himself. “We can still make it work.” Junno paused in his stride, sighing deeply. Was it really their place to meddle? But Junno knew that Kame liked Ueda, he just wasn’t sure if trying to put them together was the right move. Junno shook his head, continuing on his journey back to his apartment.  Only time could tell.

--

“Tatsuya do you think there’s a chance you might be mistaken about Kamenashi?” Nakamaru asked again with a sigh, looking at his phone. It was quite unexpected that one thought it went well and the other didn’t.
“Not really,” Ueda responded, looking at Nakamaru from over top of his glasses. “Why are you being like this? You said that if it didn’t go well I didn’t have to see him again.”
“I know I said that,” Nakamaru replied, pinching the bridge of his nose. “It’s just that Kamenashi thought the date went well, and Junno is wondering why you think it went badly.”
“I already told you,” Ueda snapped, setting the glasses on the table in front of him. “I felt like we were only arguing, not to mention he seemed a little conceited.”  Nakamaru gave a defeated sigh, sitting down across from Ueda at his dining room table.
“And you wouldn’t be willing to give him another chance?”
“Why?” Ueda asked, staring at him. Nakamaru blinked, suddenly losing his ability to think straight.
“Umm,” he cringed.
“You wouldn’t by any chance want to prove a point to your boyfriend, would you?” He asked with a small smirk.
“Eh? No, what gave you that idea?”
“You did mention something earlier,” Ueda tapped a pen against his lip. “Do you want me to give Kame another chance just so you can prove you were right and what I said about Kame was right?” Nakamaru’s stomach dropped.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“You do,” Ueda cracked a grin. “It’s a point right? You want to compete against Taguchi to prove that I was correct about that date and Kame wasn’t.”
“That’s not it,” Nakamaru responded, shaking his head. “Junno just thinks that you two might make a good match.”
“Okay,” Ueda shook his head. “If you say so.”
“So would you give him another chance?” Nakamaru asked again after a pause.
“That depends,” Ueda said thoughtfully. “If I say no, will this be the end of it?”
“Not likely,” Nakamaru responded almost immediately.
“Fine,” Ueda groaned, shaking his head. “But this is the last time, and you owe me big time.”
“Thanks Tatsuya,” Nakamaru sighed in relief. “Try to have an unbiased opinion too, alright? Kazuya really does like you.”
“Fine fine,” Ueda sighed again. “I’ll try my best.”
“That’s all I ask for.”

--

“Thanks for doing that Yuichi, it made Kazuya really happy to hear that Tatsuya would go out with him again.”
“No problem Junno,” Nakamaru smiled. “I hope they can salvage their relationship, I don’t know what happened.” Junno nodded from his spot crouching behind a plant.
“Remind me though, why are we spying on them again?”
“Because we’re curious,” Junno told him firmly. “And besides, you can’t tell me that you didn’t want to.”
“Yes I can,” Nakamaru grumbled. “I have better things to be doing. Why can’t we just give them their privacy? I’m sure they’ll tell us about the date afterwards either way,” he complained.
“Shh,” Junno put his finger to his lips. Nakamaru quieted with a huff, hiding himself behind a wall. Kame and Ueda stood quite a ways away, seeming to be chatting idly.
“Why are we doing this?” Nakamaru complained. “We can’t even hear them.”
“Come on Yuichi stop complaining,” Junno gave him a cheeky grin. “Don’t you want to know how KameDa turn out?”
“Hah?” Nakamaru asked in confusion. “KameDa, really Junno?” Junno shrugged, shaking his head with a laugh.
“I love that series!” He heard Kame exclaim. Junno squinted, and they were getting closer to his and Nakamaru’s position.
“Shit,” he muttered. Junno grabbed Nakamaru’s arm, pulling him in a different direction. Nakamaru squeaked in surprise, and Junno covered his mouth. They crouched down behind a nearby trash can. Junno was glad that the mall wasn’t that busy, or else they would look like complete idiots. He retracted his hand in surprise when he felt something wet touch his fingers.
“Did you just lick me?” He asked Nakamaru, who was glaring at him.
“You usually like it when I do that,” Nakamaru scoffed. Junno felt his face heat up as he looked away.
“Maybe I’ll bite next time.”
“Please don’t,” Junno requested, cringing at the thought. “At least not my hand…” Nakamaru started coughing, seeming to choke on the air. Junno patted Nakamaru’s back, cringing slightly.
“Sorry.” Nakamaru glared at him again once he managed to catch his breath. Junno reached down, interlacing his fingers with Nakamaru’s, who just sighed.
“We just lost them you know.”
“Crap,” Junno sighed, tugging Nakamaru upright. “Do you want to go find them?”
“Do we have to?” Nakamaru asked. “Why don’t we just go do something?” Junno smiled.
“I like that idea. We’ll leave them to their own date.”
“Glad you agree.”

--

“How did the second date go?” Junno asked excitedly. Kame sat down on his couch, staring at him incredulously.
“You know I saw you guys, right?” He inquired, instead of answering Junno’s question. Junno’s eyes widened.
“What are you talking about?” He asked innocently.
“Cut the crap,” Kame sighed. “I saw you and Nakamaru-kun spying on us in the mall.” Junno sighed.
“I’m sorry Kazuya, I guess we were being too invasive,” he cringed. “But we wanted to know how it would go.”
“Junno you can’t just do that!” Kame exclaimed. “You can’t spy on our date, that’s kind of creepy to be honest!”
“But how?” Junno pouted. “I was curious, and besides we left during the second date to go on our own little date.”
“The second date?” Kame asked incredulously. “Does that mean you spied on our first date too?” Junno clenched his eyes shut with a sigh, wondering why he had said that.
“Sorry Kazuya.”
“Junno,” Kame sighed again. “That’s not a good thing to do.”
“I know and again, I’m sorry.” Junno insisted. “Now, how’d it go?” The frown disappeared from Kame’s face, leaving a smile as he shrugged.
“I think it went really well. Ueda-kun was a lot more open with me and we had fun.”
“That’s great Kazuya!”
“Yeah,” Kame nodded. “We agreed to just give it time to see where it goes, and in the meant time we’ll continue to have dates.”
“That sounds good,” Junno grinned. “I hope this works out for you Kazuya, I do.”
“I do too,” he admitted. “This has the potential to be something real.” Junno nodded, patting Kame’s shoulder.
“Yeah, and hopefully it will be.”

--

“Thanks for telling me to go out again Yuichi,” Ueda said with a smile. “Kame actually isn’t that bad after all.”
“Really?” Nakamaru asked, surprise evident in his voice. “I’m glad to hear you say that, what made you change your mind?”
“I saw a different side of him,” Ueda admitted. “It was something I liked, so I want to give it another try.”
“I’m sure he’s happy that you changed your mind.” Ueda shrugged, stirring his coffee idly.
“Do you think it’s going to work out?”
“I’m not sure,” Ueda said. “We’ll see what happens.” Nakamaru smiled and nodded, knowing that if it worked out, it would be good for both of them.
“Yeah, see what happens.”
