Summary: Quinn's tired of Sam, so decides to comfort Rachel after her break up with Finn. She never expected that comforting Rachel would lead to this.
A/N: I would just like to make a quick shout out to Naya Rivera. She did an amazing job in the most recent episode of Glee. Now, I hope this chapter makes up for the last one. I think my writer's block is going away. But if not, I'm terribly sorry. Also, this is the second to last chapter of this fic. (Also, as I'm posting this, the song I named this fic after starting playing on my iPod.) Enjoy!
"You're going to do what," Santana shrieked and almost did a spit take all over Quinn.
"It's not the entire school, San. Just the Glee club. I mean, Sam and Finn already know. And you and Britt. Rachel told Mercedes last night."
"Whoa, slow down. Finn knows?"
"I told him yesterday after Glee rehearsal. He was waiting at my car and I just wanted to go home, so I told him."
Santana nodded then asked, "Are you sure you're ready for this, Q? I mean, you two haven't been together long."
Quinn opened her mouth, but the Latina interrupted by raising a hand and adding, "And don't say that it worked out for me and B. You know exactly why no one cares about us dating."
The blonde did know why her two best friends could be out and proud, and she envied them. They have been practically dating since the fifth grade and everyone has gotten used to it. Sure, they had a few insults thrown their way back then, but those people learned how strong Santana Lopez truly was. Eventually people gave up trying to hurt them and just let them be. Quinn wished she could have that.
"I know it's going to be hard, S. It probably won't be with the Glee club, but it will with everyone else. We were going to do it sometime anyway, so why not now?"
"Because what it's too much for you or Berry? You'll end up regretting your decision, you'll break up, then I'll have to deal with you whining about her all the damn time. You need to stop making decisions that aren't meant to be impulsive. This isn't like 'should I kiss her now or not'. This is real shit, Q. If you aren't ready, you need to tell Berry."
Quinn knew she should be angry at her friend, but she wasn't. Santana actually had a point. The decision was impulsive, and that could lead to losing Rachel. That was definitely not what she wanted. But on the other hand, telling Rachel she's not ready may seem like she's questioning their relationship. She groaned loudly and rubbed her temples.
"You can tell the Glee club. No one in there is going to care. But just wait on telling everyone else, okay?"
"How long do you think we should wait?"
"It's not my relationship, Quinn. You and Rachel have to be the ones who are ready."
"But Rach is ready."
Santana laughed loudly.
"She already has to deal with having gay parents. Do you really think she's ready to go through what they did? And on top of that, being a gay kid raised by gay parents?"
"But she was so happy when I told her that I wanted to-"
"It's Rachel Berry! She knows how to act happy when she's terrified."
"It doesn't make sense. She was the one who picked out the song."
"That song doesn't scream 'I'm gay!' It's message is to accept people for who they are. And that message has a lot of meanings."
"But if Rach and I sing it together, people will get our message."
"No, they won't. They'll just think you did a duet together. God, Q, do you think anything through anymore?"
Quinn thought about it. She had jumped the gun on a lot of things lately, but Rachel looked like she wanted to tell people. Maybe she read her girlfriend wrong. Or maybe Santana doesn't know what the hell she's talking about. She was so confused about the whole situation.
"Fine. I'll talk to Rachel, but if this messes up my relationship-"
"Yeah, you'll kill me. I get it."

Quinn didn't know why she was so nervous. This was Rachel, her girlfriend. She shouldn't be nervous around the person she loves, but there she was. They were standing back stage, about to perform, and the small brunette was rambling on about how they were going to rock the song.
"Rach, can I ask you something?"
The other girl stopped and looked into Quinn's eyes.
"What is it, Quinn?"
"Do you... Are you sure..."
"What?"
"Do you really want to tell everyone so soon?"
"Yes, of course."
"Rachel, I want you to be honest with me."
Rachel took a deep breath and stared at the floor. Quinn wrapped her arms around the diva's waist.
"I want to in the future."
"Then why were you so excited earlier?"
"I thought it's what you wanted."
"I only agreed because you looked so happy about it."
They both laughed lightly before Rachel pulled away from Quinn. The blonde furrowed her brow.
"I'm sorry for how I have been acting recently, Quinn. There has been this back and forth battle going on inside of me, and I realize that may have confused you a bit."
"What are you trying to tell me?"
"That I love you and that I'm sorry for any confusion I may have caused you to have in these past few days. Also, I'm not certain if I want to tell anyone else about our relationship. I mean, outside of the Glee club."
"Babe, we haven't thought about it that far yet."
Rachel was about to say something when Santana burst through the backstage door.
"Are you two going to perform or not?"
"We were talking," Quinn said through gritted teeth. The Latina gave her an apologetic look.
"Mr. Shuester just wanted me to come check on you two."
"We can finish our conversation later, Quinn."
Quinn nodded and took a deep breath. Santana squeezed her shoulder before leaving.
"Are you ready," the taller girl asked.
"As ready as I'll ever be."
They pulled the curtain back and walked out onto the stage. The members of the Glee club were scattered throughout the first couple rows. Finn and Sam were next to each other in the first row, smiling up at them. Behind them was Brittany and Santana, fingers laced together and whispering to each other. Artie was in the walk way at the end of the row that the two girls were sitting, staring at Brittany with a sad look on his face. Puck, Lauren, and Mercedes were in the third row. Tina and Mike were sitting next to Mr. Shue at the end of the third row, looking a little uncomfortable with their teacher sitting next to them. Quinn stopped observing her friends and glanced at Rachel. The brunette smiled then started her speech.
"Before Quinn and I start, I would like to say something. The song we are about to perform has a message that can be taken several ways, but please try to notice which way we are singling out. It is taking a lot of courage for us to do this. There is a reason we are performing, not just to sing. Although many of you already know, there are still some that don't. We are trusting you with something that is a bit scary for us, so we hope you will all be accepting. Thank you."
Rachel nodded to the band and stepped back to stand next to Quinn. The blonde was the first to sing.
My mama told when I was young
We're all born superstars
She rolled my hair, put my lipstick on
In the glass of boudoir
"There's nothing wrong with loving who you are"
She said, "Cause He made you perfect, babe"
"So hold your head up, girl and you'll go far"
"Listen to me when I say"
Her girlfriend joined her on the chorus.
I'm beautiful in my way cause God makes no mistakes
I'm on the right track, baby, I was born this way
Don't hide yourself in regret
Just love yourself and you're set
I'm on the right track, baby, I was born this way
Rachel took over the next part.
Give yourself prudence and love your friends
Subway kid, rejoice the truth
In the religion of the insecure
I must be myself, respect my youth
A different lover is not a sin
Believe capital H-I-M
I love my life, I this record and mi amore vole fe yah
Quinn smiled because she remembered how many times it took Rachel to memorize the line that was in a different language. When it came to singing in another language, the smaller girl actually struggled with it. Just like she was struggling right now to keep her eyes off Rachel and to look at the people sitting in the seats. She wanted to know if they were catching on yet.
No matter gay, straight, or bi
Lesbian, transgendered life
I'm on the right track, baby, I was born to survive
No matter black, white, or beige
Chola or orient made
I'm on the right track, baby, I was born this way
Everyone's faces lit up in realization then. That's when Quinn decided to grab Rachel's hand and finish the song by looking at her. When they finished, a loud rumble of applause came from their classmates. They all walked onto the stage and circled them for a group hug. Quinn fought the tears that threatened to fall.
"I'm very proud of you two. And I think I speak for everyone when I say that we fully support you," Mr. Shuester said after a moment of silence.
"Especially from us guys. We already lost Kurt because of homophobic jerks. We don't want to lose you two also," Puck added and the other guys nodded in agreement. Quinn noticed how Finn tensed at the word homophobic, but she let it go. At least he was being supportive.
"And we'll totally keep it a secret until you're ready to tell more people," Mercedes said.
"Which is going to be really hard for us gossipers," Tina added, making everyone chuckle softly. Quinn's eyes met Rachel's and she mouthed "I love you". The brunette did the same before grabbing her hand. She let her tears fall as soon as her girlfriend gave her hand a light squeeze.
A few minutes later, everyone started to leave. Quinn noticed Santana and Brittany leaving, and she stopped them.
"San! Britt! Can I talk to you for a second?"
The two girls walked back up the steps.
"What's up, Q," Santana asked.
"Thank you."
"For what?"
"For everything. If it wasn't for you guys, I would have been a homophobic bitch who would be miserable because of her sexuality. You're my best friends. If you ever need anything, just ask me. I owe you both big time."
All three of the girls were crying and hugging when Santana looked at Rachel.
"Come on, Rachel. Get in here. You're part of the family, too."
Quinn wrapped an arm around the small girl's waist while the Latina put an arm over her shoulders. The blonde kissed her girlfriend's temple and smiled. She loved this little family of hers. It was probably the best family she's had all her life. She really hoped she wouldn't lose contact with any of them after graduation, especially Rachel. But from the looks of it, they were all stuck with each other for a really long time. For Quinn, she didn't have a problem with that at all.
