[Action&Video]

[Not one too fall into the same routine for too long, today was a day where he wanted to shake things up. With Luceti Land ending just a few days ago, Red was pretty bored and the recreation centre wasn't cutting it. At least, it was without his friends. Lazily flipping through the journals in hopes of seeing a familiar face, his ( Read more... )

I've only heard about Pokemon from people here. ["People" being ... Gold, really.] Your world seems really fascinating, with the freedom kids are given.

Sounds like most people here, heh. [He tries not to sound disappointed by it, since he at least got to hear interesting things from other people.]

What's it like for 'em in your world, then?

Well, kids are usually protected and kept sheltered much longer. You're usually at least a teenager before you're leaving the house for long periods of time, let alone traveling all over by yourself. [It had really surprised him, to say the least.]

I think I started my journey when I was ten. [Red pauses thoughtfully.] As long as you can take care of yourself, that's all that matters.

I had my Pokémon for that. They kept me company, and we all looked out for each other. ... Besides, isn't it kinda boring just staying at home all day?

Well, yeah, but there's usually other kids around... [Uh. Not that he started meeting them until he was older than ten, but hey.] Since it's normal for kids to stay at home, they can go to school together and stuff.

School? I've heard of it, but we never really had to go back in our world. If I were in that position, I wouldn't be able to stand that. [He does try to imagine himself staying back in Pallet Town for a full year, and no, just... no.]

What's going to school like, anyway?

School is where you learn all of the things you're supposed to eventually need. Mathematics, the sciences, reading comprehension... Like the school here in Luceti. [Unfortunately, he's aware that it sounds really boring to most kids.] I'm sure others can describe it better; the school I went to is for further education and isn't really required.

Can't you just... Learn all those things along the way? Like, figuring out these things on your own. I don't see why someone has to teach it to you.

[Everything's very hands-on in the PokéWorld, so Red's having a little trouble trying to process the importance of school.]

... Huh, I see. Did you like it?

Some things, sure. It depends on what you intend to do with your life. Most kids don't decide what they want to do for a living by the time they're ten, too. [Which was another thing that boggled his mind.]

I love going to school. I'm there mostly so I have access to the research groups there and so I can have proof that I'm as smart as I say I am.

Well, there's the professor. He was the same as me, travelling around the region until later on. He didn't start researching Pokémon until then, so I'm still not exactly sure what I'm gonna do. [It's the first time he's thought of it; what he would be doing later on in life. He just wasn't much of a tomorrow person, rather, living in the day.] I just know I really love battling, and hope that's a part of it.

So school... Is it kinda like a competition to you, then?

I've heard that's part of what you do as a Pokemon trainer -- have your Pokemon battle. Is it a ... sport?

[He pauses at the question.] ...Well... The exams are. Then you get your degree and you get put to work. But it helps if you're pursuing something you've had an interest in all your life. [Another pause.] So I guess it's not too different in that regard.

I dunno. Everyone raises them for different reasons. Some just raise them for breeding, some collect them... For me, they're my partners in battle. I guess it's kinda like a sport that way? There's a bunch of competitions for it, and you get a lot of recognition.

Man, that sounds pretty though in its own right. There are a couple schools where I'm from, but they aren't mandatory or anything. At least, I think they aren't... [Red pauses.]

What're you studying to be, anyway?

So there's basically a lot of jobs in your world revolving around the Pokemon. I guess that makes sense if they're so prevalent.

I'm studying aerospace engineering with a focus on astronautical sciences, Heraldry in concerted efforts of societal improvement, the possible machinations and hazards of multifaceted defensive systems... [He trails off.] --Oh. I'm studying to be a scientist.

Yeah, they're pretty much what our world revolves around, so yeah. Is there anything like that in your world?

[Ah wait, hold up...]

... Aerospace? Astronautical? [If this were video, you'd be seeing one very confused expression right now, Leon.] ... Uh...

[He blanks, and then by a stroke of luck! A light bulb comes to him.] Oh! So you're a scientist.

[nod nod.] What kind do you want to be? [He was totally paying attention before, okay?]

[...He shouldn't be surprised. He manages a smile, deciding to put this in layman's terms.]

I'd like to work on spacecrafts and improving space travel.

[Leon can't see, but Red's eyes widen at the sound of space.]

Seriously!? Woah, that's pretty cool! [Red lets out a low whistle.] Are you planning to go up there one day? I've always wondered what it was like.
