Polyamory had always been something that intrigued John. Somewhere in his subconscious, he knew from a very early time that it was something that could be part of his future, like bisexuality. But, at least in the beginning, he tended towards monogamy and relationships with women. His marriage to Jill had been a mostly happy one - and although he and she did begin to experiment with threesomes at one point, it was more a series of friendly one-night stands than true, ongoing polyamory.
John didn’t begin to experience polyamorous love to the full - having a long term, committed sexual and emotional relationship with more than one person - until after Jill’s death. He found two angels, a woman and a man, who made him feel complete again. When Amanda and Zep came into his life, each one gave so much comfort to him, and he adored them both utterly. When he realized that he was in love with the two of them at the same time, he knew that he could never give up either one.
Fortunately, all of them eventually fell in love with each other, and decided to make a life, even a marriage of sorts, together. It was a rare sweetness that this trio had found, but they made it work for them.
