You Must Be Kidding Me...
Bonzo knocked on Dooku's door.
"Bonzo?"
"Yes, Master?"
"Come in."
One glance at Bonzo's face shows that...well, something ain't right here.
"What happened?"
"I tried to sort out what happened with Petra, Master."
This can not be good...
"And?"
"Well, she is now rather convinced that I did not try to kill her."
Pause.
"That would be good news if I could not tell that there is more to this story. Then again, there is always more to the story."
"Yes, Master. I convinced her by pointing the toy lightsaber we were duelling with at my chest and igniting it."
"I sense that there is a bit more to this than just pointing the lightsaber at yourself."
Bonzo smiled a bit nervously at Dooku before looking down at the floor.
"I also pretended that it was real. For a moment, at least."
Dooku simply tapped on the table, frowning at Bonzo and shaking his head.
"You do need to learn not to play pranks on people. Especially if she is as...fragile as you say she is."
Bonzo looked down at the floor.
"Yes, Master."
"I would consider suspending your work on the lightsaber for this if you were not...well, in potential danger from her."
"Did you seek her out to do this?"
"No, I did not. However, it is easy enough..."
"...to come across someone in the Bar. Yes, I understand completely. I would advise you to either sequester yourself in your room as much as possible, outside of our training sessions and meals, to avoid contact with her."
"Yes, Master."
"I am disappointed in you, Bonzo."
That stung Bonzo deeply.
"Yes, Master. Nothing of this nature will happen again. I assure you of that."
"Very well. Do, though, remember what I have said about arrogance many times."
"I understand. I am judged by my actions just as anyone else is, and I will be accepted or not based on them."
"As long as you understand that...and act according to it, I might add...as long as you do that, you will be fine."
Bonzo nods, looking down at the floor.
"Bonzo, it was a bad judgement on your part, nothing more, nothing less. Can you tell me why you did it, though?"
"She thought I tried to kill her during our sparring session yesterday, and wouldn't take my offer to see that the toy was just a toy. I couldn't stand being thought of as trying to kill her when I did no such thing."
Dooku considers this for a moment, pondering it.
"Sloppy technique, Bonzo. Very sloppy. Simply pushing it through a table or chair, or even a part of your person would have done the job...why did you see the need to pretend that you had killed yourself, of all things?"
Bonzo sighs deeply.
"My best explanation is dramatic effect. Even that, though, is not the whole truth."
"Then what is?"
"I wanted to see the look on her face. I was angry at her for accusing me of trying to kill her, by her actions more than her words, and then not giving me a chance to clear my name. When I offered her the toy to strike me with, she attempted to break it."
Bonzo produces the toy, dent and all.
"She also gave me this..."
Bonzo produces the box with the gun.
"What, precisely, is in the box?"
"A gun. A .22, to be precise, though I don't recognize it."
"A projectile weapon. Never preferable...it is almost always sloppy to use. But it makes no sense..."
"She either cares about me enough to want me to be able to defend myself, or she wants to goad me into a fight. I can't be sure which, but she did say that she has suffered thirteen assassination attempts."
Dooku nods.
"She is clearly quite lucky."
"She is also clearly unstable, at least in my mind, Master."
"What brought you to this brilliant conclusion, Padawan?"
Bonzo rolls his eyes at the sarcasm.
"She threw a knife by my head after I revealed that I was not dead following my prank."
"That is not just instability. That is also a critique of your sense of humor. As I said before, do not do that again."
"Yes, Master."
"Now, go to work on your lightsaber. I do not want to hear of you initiating contact with Petra again in the meantime."
"Very well. I shall do this."
"That is all for now, Bonzo."
Bonzo nods in affirmation of Dooku's command, and withdraws.
"Bonzo?"
