I've known for a while now that Palouse Board Gamers is one of the great blessings in my life, full of wonderfully quirky, friendly, intelligent people. A test of a good club is how it handles when the founder moves on, and while I have been so sick this past year, they have excelled and are stronger than ever, a wonderfully vibrant hobby community.
Of course, I was thrilled that they still like me :) I am busily on the upswing now, and have attended two weeks in a row and some other activities in between, and everyone seems genuinely so happy to see me back. And while they have been on the ground, they also appreciate my background and behind the scenes work to arange discounts, programming, game management, and other such tasks.
Anyhow, since last SpoCon and the excellent way the PBG team handled my programming ideas with the con, the club has gotten lots of positive feedback. The major game store in the region, Uncles Games, had two storefronts both staffed with people who knew of our club and seemed really glad to meet us. A major game company, Days of Wonder, signed me on as an official 'volunteer' and sent our club a couple of hundred dollars worth of free top-name popular games to play. And two newspapers in the area called up in a week to arange articles and interviews.
