Fact is, the world is in just about as good a shape as it's ever been, and unfortunately for those who make their money in the doomseerin' bidness, it just keeps getting better. Not to worry, though. We'll still have the War in Iraq to kick around for a good long while. That should bum people out plenty and provide adequate casualties to depress practically anyone, however optimistic about the overall outlook of humanity.
