When Sam buzzes him in Luka opens the building door and makes his way to her apartment. He hesitates before knocking, thinking not for the first time how he hates having to knock on his own wife's door to be let in. Finally he gives in and knocks.

He steps into the apartment and looks around, somewhat shocked at the lack of furniture. He hadn't come inside when he'd dropped Alex off here, and can't help a feeling of guilt as he looks at where his family is living. He nods at Sam but hesitates, speaking softly. Can I go see Alex first?

He nods and walks down the hall where she'd indicated. He pushes the door open and stands in the doorway for several long moments, watching his stepson sleep. He finally makes his way into the room, crouching beside the bed. He uses a hand to smooth the hair off the boy's forehead and speaks in a whisper. Love you, buddy.

You don't need to get up now. Luka withdraws his hand but stays crouched by the bed. I just wanted to say hi...your mom and I are leaving now.

Luka shrugs, smiling sadly, knowing this trip has to be sending mixed messages to the boy. It's not bad.

Luka shakes his head, smoothing his hand through the boy's hair again. I hope that happens again someday, Alex.

Luka nods, letting out a sigh of his own, aching as he sees the boy's tears. I know. It really does.

Luka leans to press a kiss to the boy's temple. We'll see you when we get back...Still coming to stay next week?
