Anarchy and Apron Strings
The new domesticity:
On the needle with
the Knit Grrrls interesting, irks me a little though how they throw so much of it into being a "housewife" rather than just plain crafty (my opinion). i don't know- maybe because i had none of that in mind when i knit/crochet in general. it is a pretty big fad right now i've seen, but so was beading (wasn't it?) or rubber stamping. it IS something for housewives to do and that's great they can get recognition for (being something other then that title), but knitting has been so reinvented it's no longer about "the little woman" and more about fashion, and DIY (which they do indeed note: anarchy).
OR maybe this is just coming from someone who doesn't care much for those Stitch N Bitch books, has been knitting since her grandmother taught her when she was 10 and was called an old lady in high school. i still like how so many people enjoy it though.
