Thousands of people got married in california when gay marriage was legalized.. but then only a little time later people of California was asked to vote on Prop 8. Yes meant that those thousands of people who married, would have their marriage dissolved.. like it was never there in the first place. People who voted yes, claimed they were defending marriage..
There are plenty of reasons for people to vote no, it'd take all day for me to sit and list them all. In this day and age most people have realized there is absolutely nothing wrong with homosexuality, it isn't a disease and it doesn't make someone a bad person. Homosexuality doesn't hurt anyone, so some people have learned to live with it.
People should be able to marry whoever they want, without restrictions on race, religion, or even gender. Married people tend to be better people in society, better parents, own property, and be active in the community.
Yet the only reason people can come up with to why gay marriage shouldn't be legalized is, God doesn't like it. When did religion decide what laws would be passed? Things work that way in other countries, but in the land of the "free" I was under the impression laws were passed because they were good for the society. Religion may inspire laws, but you have to prove to us that the laws are GOOD for us. But people saying yes to Prop 8 have yet to do that.
We aren't asking that you change your views, or forcing you to allow same sex marriage in your church. This is a civil matter over peoples rights, not over your religion. All we ask is that same-sex couples can have the same rights in marriage as straight couples get to. We should be allowed to visit our loved on in the hospital, or choose not to have to testify against them in court, that if they go into a nursing home we can be with them and not be seperated. Gays should have the same rights as any straight couple does.
Prop 8 is WRONG. I was raised and taught in school that I lived in the land of the free, I said the pledge of the allegiance every day when the school day began, everyday I said "and justice for ALL". I didn't say "and justice for straights." Does the anthem not say the land of the free? Not the land of the straight? Now all those couples that went and got married, have their marriage taken away. Why would you take something away so precious to a couple? Because the bible says that marriage is to be between a man and a woman? The bible has also been rewritten MANY times. The bible also says that God forgives us for our sins and NEVER makes a mistake. So how can every gay/lesbian/transexual person be a mistake? People sin EVERY day, just because you go to church doesn't make you better then everyone else and you need to get a reality check. It's WRONG to take someone's rights away just because they are queer, it's discrimination! It's like telling people they can't get married depending on the color of their skin, or maybe because they don't follow the christian religion. That wouldn't be right would it? So how is it right to tell people the SAME thing because they are gay?
When you can come up with a better arguement then "defending" traditional marriage or because God doesn't like it, then you come talk to me.
I want change, WE need change. We need hate to stop, the discrimination to end. Everyone should be able to marry whoever they damn well please, without having a law thrown in their face telling them they don't have that right.
Comment on this, whether you disagree or agree. I'll listen and we can talk. But if your only reason to disagree is because God hates gays or marriage should between only a man and a woman, then you really aren't worth my time. Don't tell me what the bible has to say, tell me what YOU have to say.
