Hello there, everyone. I'm new to cosplay and livejournal, and am in need of help.
At the end of May, I'll be attending Phoenix Comicon with a friend, and we're having some problems getting what we need for our outfits.
We have our first cosplay all set, no problems there. For the second day, we'll be going as generic Vampire Knight night class students. After much searching, I finally managed to find some rose buttons that should work (
here, by the way), but they need to be painted. I was thinking spray paint should work, but I don't know which brand would be best. Any thoughts? Also, I found some studs that look just like the manga, but they also look like they may fall off easily. Would hot glue on the underside (with the prongs of the studs) look odd from the front or damage the cloth? Is there something that would work better?
Our next cosplay is a little more obscure, but it should still be fun. We're going to be shadowhunters, from the Mortal Instruments series of books by Cassandra Clare. Overall, this should be pretty simple. The only problem is that we need certain props, and we have no idea how to make them. All shadowhunters have an instrument called a stele, which they use to draw runes onto their skin. They're described as being silver, and "a long, luminous cylinder, as thick around as an index finger and tapering to a point." The only thought that I've had so far is to just get wooden dowels and paint them silver. The problem with that is that they wouldn't taper, and they'd look like... well... a wooden dowel painted silver. There must be something in the proper shape and length, if not the right color, but I don't even know where to start.
Any help would be very much appreciated!
