tonight: Rachael Sage CD release show at Kendall Cafe

Aug 28, 2003 16:20

As my August 2nd post said, Rachael Sage is returning to Cambridge for her Boston CD release show. She's playing at 11pm tonight at The Kendall Cafe in Cambridge, the last set of the night. geoffroi tells me he's heard good things about the artist playing at 9pm, Nicole McKenna.

Rachael plays keyboard and signs, and will be performing with her band, Stephanie Winters on cello (The Nudes, Dar Williams), and Dean Sharp on drums (played with Jane Siberry, Jill Sobule, and many others). Rachael's melodies are catching and addictive, her lyrics strange and intricate and thoughtful, and her shows swirl with as many colors as her album covers and the Rachael Sage candies she gives out at every show. I wrote about her in my first cosmusic post: You could call her folk, or pop. I sometimes describe some folk artists' music as "dark folk" and others' as "bright folk" - Rachael Sage is the only one I can think of who combines both, in the same songs. If you know what I mean by that, then you know what I mean by that. You can read more about Rachael Sage at the ecto music guide.

The Kendall Cafe is at 233 Cardinal Medeiros Avenue, across the street from One Kendall Square, near the Kendall movie theater and parking garage. Their number is 617-661-0993. They serve food, and have a few tables for people who want dinner, though it's a small place and seats run out. It is unfortunately 21+, but the cover is low: $5.Coming up next week in Cambridge:
Brian Joseph at Club Passim, Wed Sep 3, 8pm
Trina Hamlin at Club Passim, Thu Sep 4, 7pm
Platypus Rex at the Kirkland Cafe, Thu Sep 4, 10pm
(Yes, you can see both Trina Hamlin and Platypus Rex, the times won't conflict and the venues are walking distance from each other)
