Chuck vs. the nacho sampler

Feb 02, 2010 23:38

Well, it's February, and this is the first post I've made this year. I guess I should be surprised that I wasn't defriended by more than one person. I don't really blame you. But I do have a legitimate reason: I've been having some issues with my family that I don't really want to go into. Just thinking about it gives me a headache, so let's discuss happy stuff instead.

I've really been enjoying the third season of Chuck so far. I cam always count on this show to leave me grinning like a loon.
This isn't the first time Chuck has dealt with someone similar to him (see, for instance, Mark Ratner in "Chuck vs. the Cougars"), but what makes Manoosh different is that he is a potential asset and not a civilian in need of saving. As Sarah said, she liked Chuck, and that made it harder to do her job. Chuck asked why, but he was about to find out. As soon as they discovered common ground, and Chuck saw himself in Manoosh, he couldn't help but let the guy's humanity sway him a little. In the end, though, he managed to do what needed to be done and burn the asset. I like the parallel established between this and Sarah's handling of Chuck. And while I do think she may be acting a little overprotective of him lately (which I guess is only natural when you care about someone), I think she also has a reason to be concerned. If the goal here is to turn Chuck into a mini-Casey, I'm not sure I like that. As he becomes more of a spy, Chuck seems to be losing a bit of himself along the way. Drinking himself into a stupor might work for Casey, but Chuck has a gentler temperament. It would be a shame if Chuck becomes a successful spy, only to lose what makes him valuable. So here's hoping he can evolve while still keeping his character intact.
In other thoughts...I loved the use of The Clash (that must have been expensive), and Casey's delight at attending a weapons convention. The scene with the pen and Casey telling Chuck to "Get your mouth over here" was kind of slashy, wasn't it? Sarah luring Manoosh and pretending to sleep with him was pretty hot too. She's so gorgeous. I may have a little bit of a girl crush on her. Not much going on with Hannah in this episode, so I guess we'll be seeing where that goes next week. I have to say, I've heard that Kristin Kreuk is hated by a lot of Smallville fans, and I don't see why. She seems okay to me. Finally, I thought the throwback to the pilot showing Sarah's first impressions of Chuck was a nice touch.

-I found Liz Lemon's cupcake pajamas! I'm trying to justify buying them, since I do need a new pair (and of course there's only one pair left), but they're so expensive. $86? What the what?

-Found an awesome fanmix/picspam for all you Breakfast At Tiffany's fans (i_am_girlfriday, I think you in particular will like this) over here at lensflair_inc. Haven't listened to it yet, but it looks great.

- This Supernatural picspam, entitled "The ten commandments of being Sam and Dean" is pretty amazing. Also see "12 reasons why children should be forced to watch Supernatural" and the "Sam intervention".

-I'm sure someone must've recommended this before and I missed it, but in any case, it bears repeating: run over to proofpudding's journal right now and check out "All my bones began to shake." It's this beautiful vid about Bela (yes, Bela) and her relationship with Dean. It really does a justice to her character that wasn't present on the show. I still think it was a lost opportunity that we never got to see her fleshed out more, what with the shortened third season, but that seems to be a recurring thing with female characters on Supernatural.

-I'm still kind of bummed about Ugly Betty being cancelled. It's been doing much better storywise this year and I thought rescuing it from Friday nights was a good sign, but I guess not. It seems to be a lost cause to fight for, because on the one hand, I want it to stick around, but then on the other, it's had a good run, and maybe it was never supposed to be one of those shows that runs for years. I totally think a spinoff with Marc and Amanda is in order though, if the webisodes are anything to go by.

-New layout!

Okay, I should probably go to bed now. Have a good night. :)
