Sixteen baby chicks, not quite a week old. They have already almost doubled in size. Eight will remain with us, eight will move on to our friends with whom we are co-parenting for the first few weeks of their lives. So darn adorable.
They are starting out life in a cardboard box with a heat lamp, some water and some chicken feed. Once we are down to just our girls we will give them names. Seven breeds for our eight; Golden Laced Wyandotte (two), Silver Laced Wyandotte, Easter Egger, Barred Plykouth Rock, Australorp, Buff Orpington and a Rhode Island Red.
This is our third group of chickens. None survive from the first two batches, sadly.
Chickens bring me happiness.
