what if harry potter...

...had been a girl?

I'm sure there are fanfic AUs about this, but just think of changing that one thing and not changing anything else at all. Not the name (Harry, short for Harriet) or the relationships with Ron and Hermione, not Ginny, not Cedric or Cho Chang. Not Draco, not the parents or the adult mentors or the antagonists or the enemies.

Man.

That's a pretty awesome thought, no?

(I guess she'd sleep in the girls' dorm and not the boys, and that would have maybe changed the relationships with Ron and Hermione a little bit. And other such minor changes, which might cause bigger changes. Huh. Which is basically what happened with BSG: Starbuck was a girl instead of a boy. And that made BSG awesome.)

Also: that really makes me want Harry/Hermione, which is a pairing I've never really gone for otherwise.

Also part two: I'm trying to think of ladies who could have played her in the movies, and right now I'm thinking Carey Mulligan or Katie McGrath (Morgana on Merlin, who's in my icon right there). Any other suggestions? Since I've mostly picked actresses that are a few years too old to have played Harry at eleven in 2001.

A question: I've seen some people do the POC!casting of tv shows we like. Has anyone done the same with genderswitching shows? With partial (like here, just Harry) or full (flip 'em all!) and, if yes, could somebody link me to a few? If not, why the heck not?

In conclusion: girls are awesome.

PS. Go watch calapine's vid, Wild Child, about girls and women being awesome.
