How - How Happiness Can Make People Nervous

Jul 22, 2011 22:37

Me and my friend lothlorien decided to celebrate something again by coming up with five prompts each for five different fandoms (so ten prompts total) and write a scene around that prompt. No word limit was set. You can find lothlorien's prompt answers at Twisting the Hellmouth.

Prompt: Andrew's high on life for some reason. He's bouncing around, babbling the ears off other people which drives them nuts. Someone confronts him, wanting to know why he's so happy.

Disclaimer: I probably don’t own anything you recognise, I probably do own everything you don’t recognise and I’m not making any money from this.

Fandom: Buffy: the Vampire Slayer.

Pairing: None.

Rating: FR13.

Spoilers: Definitely. Post-series.

Summary: Asking “how” is what started it all. Two authors, five fandoms, ten prompts.

Story: How

Chapter: How Happiness Can Make People Nervous

Seeing a happy, humming, bouncing, babbling Andrew was an everyday occurrence for the people living in the new Slayers and Watchers’ Council’s headquarters. The recent levels of happiness, humming, bouncing and babbling that Andrew had started showing, though, scared the shit out of most people currently living and working in the building.

Not the Scoobies, though. Because let’s face it: the Scoobies had seen-and killed-scarier things than a happy Andrew. That didn’t stop them from being curious about the reasons for his happiness. A quick game of rock-paper-scissors declared Xander the loser and coincidentally the one who had to find out what had happened to Andrew to make him so pleased with himself.

Looking left and right surreptitiously, Xander slipped silently through the kitchen door and walked to an unused corner, watching Andrew unobtrusively for a minute. Pushing away from the wall, he cleared his throat noisily and watched in satisfaction as Andrew whirled around in surprise.

“Oh, hi, Xander! Didn’t hear you come in. What’s going on? A new demon you need my help with? Or an apocalypse maybe?” Andrew asked eagerly, already reaching around to untie his green-and-pink “Cooking Geeks Are Dangerous. Who Knows Which Recipe We’ll Try Next.” apron.

“No, no, there’s nothing that needs our immediate attention,” Xander was quick to assure him. “The next apocalypse isn’t scheduled for another three weeks and we’re still gathering information on that group of Rim’ingh demons.”

“Rimming?” Andrew asked, furrowing his eyebrows.

A choked-off gasp came from Xander and he frantically wondered why Andrew immediately thought of that and if perhaps it had something to do with why he had been in such a good mood lately. He grimaced and fought a silent battle with himself, not sure he wanted to know about Andrew’s sex life.

“No, Rim’ingh demons, not Rimming demons,” he corrected hastily.

“Oh, um, why are you here then, Xander, if you don’t need my help with something demonic?” Andrew asked confusedly.

“No, reason. Just wanted to talk to you. Andmaybefindoutwhat’sgotyousohappylately.”

Andrew blinked, ran over the sentence in his head-with pauses between the words-and started grinning and bouncing. “E-bay is the best invention ever!”

“Okay . . .,” Xander drawled, wondering what that statement was all about.

“I cheaply bought a mint-condition Star Wars figurine from this guy who didn’t know what he had in his hands when he sold it. It’s worth much more than what I paid for it,” Andrew explained.

Xander blinked. Well, that explained everything.

End of “How Happiness Can Make People Nervous”.
