Greetings all. My job search continues. I made it to the final two of the first job I applied for, but not the final one. I am now in the pricess for a second job. We shall see.
Last week, my wife and I saw 'Sin City.' Overall, the movie is good. It is definitely visually striking (though not in the grandiose way of 'Sky Captian' or the new 'Star Wars' films); a true comic-book-come-to-life film. This is also the source of some of its faults. The violence and noir-to-the-max feel get to be too much towards the end of the second act. From then on, it is just sensory overload, waiting for the film to end. Of course, it doesn't help that the final story (the film is three stories loosely related) is the weakest.
Now, the good of the film is quite good. The two other stories are strong, with strong characters. I loved Mickey Rourke and Clive Owen, as well as supporting characters Elijah Wood and Carla Gugino. The visuals allow the filmmakers to be overly violent without the violence becoming gross (blood is frequently white).
My take on the film is that is is unique and largely good. It becomes long towards the end, with weaker characters and story. Yet, the first two thirds of the film are worth the price of admission. This is truely a throw-back to film noir films, with a splash of Kill Bill. So, if that is your taste, you'll love this film.
