[The video switches on to show a damp-looking man fumbling with the device; he's got it upright, at least, but it doesn't look as though he realizes the camera's on. After a moment, he speaks:] Hello? Is this thing on all right? Can anyone hear me ( Read more... )

If you tell me where you are, I can bring you some towels, at least.

[He takes a moment to look around.] There's a fountain nearby... And, uh- Are those pigs?

Yes. Yes, they are. They'll be gone by tomorrow. I promise. [She could have sworn she knocked those pigs out earlier.] Be there in a few minutes.

[And the feed shuts off. Charlie's walking up a few minutes later, warm towels in her hands. She eyes the pigs and the structure they've built again, sighing before holding the towels at.]

Hi. I'm Charlie and I brought you towels.

Thanks. [He eyes her for a moment before taking the towels and rubbing himself down. The warmth is a nice change.] I'm Jack.

[Then he looks back to the pig scene.] I can't say I've seen anything like that before.

[She used her ability to warm them up. It's the least she could do.]

What, the pigs? They're uncommon. This place tends to go a little weird every so often. Random curses occur. Like the pigs.

Curses? [Wait a minute-] Things like that... That's a normal occurrence around here?

Not the pigs specifically. Random occurences, though? Yeah.

[He runs a hand through his hair, looking anxious. Did he really escape from Rapture, or is this more like out of the frying pan and into the fire?]

How "random" does it get?

Pigs one day, killer statues on another. Hair colors change. Personalities shift. That's really just the tip of it. I've only been here a couple months. Almost four if I'm remembering correctly. Just be glad you didn't arrive in October, Jack. That was kind of a horrifying month.

[He stills at the mention of killer statues.] Here, too?

What could be worse than killer statues?

October seemed to stick with the Halloween theme. [Though, those Weeping Angels were--wait, what?]

There were killer statues where you're from?

Splicers... [He says it before he realizes the word means nothing outside of Rapture, but when he does, he looks down at the towel in his hands.]

Not real statues...just people covered in plaster. But they were killer.

[She wrinkles her nose, trying to not frown too much or be too damn nosy.]
That sounds awful.

[She looks at the towels a moment, watching Jack carefully.] So, other than me and my annoying ability to ramble, has anyone explained anything about this city to you?

A little... [He looks around again.] I know that all the money I've got is useless here, at least.

Most places are good about letting you live rent free for a month. [There's that, at least.] My landlord is great about it. And if you want to find a job, just use the networking device. I've seen people post what their skills are, what experience they've had and most of the time, it gets them a job.

All right... Not sure how much work a farmhand can get in the city, but I'll try.

[He keeps glancing around, almost nervously, until he winds up looking at the sky again.] That really is the sky, isn't it? [That much is relaxing, somehow.]
