ImageOut: Day One

Oct 06, 2007 12:03

The first night of ImageOut went really well. Both the opening night films, Itty Bitty Titty Committee and Naked Boys Singing!, were sold out and the theater was packed. I had already seen Itty Bitty and not been terribly impressed, so Matt and I decided to see Naked Boys Singing!. The movie was a lot of fun despite some ATROCIOUS editing and annoying "movie magic" (as Robert Schrock, the creator of the original production, called it during the Q&A that took place following the movie). I did my best to look past the technical aspects and and enjoy the movie for what it was, so I ended up liking the film more than Matt did. The songs were clever, the singing was, for the most part, quite good and a few of the guys were really cute. The movie was silly and entertaining, so much that I eventually found that I was able to ignore the fact that I could see the singers' dicks.

Following the movie, Matt and I swung by Nasty D's for the annual Opening Night Party. Matt and I immediately gravitated toward the "programmer's corner" and spent a great deal of time chatting with Jessica, a fellow member of the Programming Committee. Thankfully there was no female singer wailing in the corner with an acoustic guitar this year, and they opted instead for a standard DJ. So while there was better music this time, conversation was made quite difficult. Still, we sipped rum and cokes, snacked on the free food, and talked until Jessica left a little after midnight. Not in a dancing mood (despite some enthusiastic coaxing from some overly friendly lesbians) we stayed seated and ending up talking with a woman (whose first name we've forgotten, but whose last name was definitely Nash) up from Philadelphia because a song of hers was used in one of the shorts being screened during the Youth Shorts program. She was incredibly nice and we talked for another hour about family, films we'd seen/planned on seeing, and her life in Philadelphia. Matt and I decided to call it a night around 1:30ish and finally headed home to watch the last two episodes of the first season of 30 Rock (By the hammer of Thor!). All in all, it was a great night.

Today Matt and I are seeing three films: Oh Happy Day @4:30, The Bubble @7:00 (which is another sold out screening), and Four Letter Word @9:30. We're also debating whether we want to catch the Youth Shorts since we feel guilty for having so much fun talking to Ms. Nash, but not going to support her film. So we may add that to our lineup as well. If anyone wants to tag along to any films, give one of us a call!
