and i lazed around all day

And so the new year begins. Y'know, as they tend to do.

I didn't do anything special last night. I finished Cinder by Marissa Meyer, which I found very enjoyable. Brought my book total for 2012 up for 45; that's rather respectable for a grad student, I think. I'm really looking forward to my reader's advisory class next semester.

I also downloaded MacStitch, which my Anna told me about and WHOA YES. It's for making cross stitch patterns. Yesssss. I had way too much playing with it last night.... and again this morning. I always find it easier to explore/figure out new software when I have a concrete idea to work with or a goal in mind, so I started working on an idea for Casey and Dave's wedding present. They aren't getting married until July, so I've got some time, but I like the first idea I came up with. (They are both huuuuuge Castle fans, so incorporating "always" into a wedding-themed cross stitch seemed like a must.) Not bad, eh? We'll see if I can think of anything else between now and July.

I've decided to do this in 2013 as well. I'm no good at resolutions - though I really do need to start eating better and stuff but that's obvious - but this seemed like a better substitute to resolutions I probably wouldn't follow through on anyway. I cleaned out one of my jelly jars last night and put it on my bookshelf. I think I'm going to fill out one slip of paper a day, either with something good that happened that day (big or small) or something that I learned. (Today's thing? I learned how to use waste canvas! I cross-stitched a little Spiderman on a piece of felt; I think I might mount him on some tagboard and make him a magnet, but I haven't decided yet.)
