Yes. When I lost my wallet at the end of Libertycon `06 (we were about 10 minutes away from the Knoxville airport, which is roughly a 2-hour drive from Chattanooga, when I realized I didn't have it; a return trip would have been about 4 hours, flight left in 2.5), the TSA was remarkably good about letting me in. Despite my being a clear red flag from any profiling standpoint - accented white guy traveling with a black guy with guns in his checked baggage, and a middle-aged Canadian woman.
They gave me a slightly more intense screening (pat-down in addition to the usual X-ray), but let me in. And did so again, two or three times after I stepped out of the cleared areas to smoke cigarettes.
The TSA people at both transfer airports were equally reasonable when I went past them to smoke too. Although to be fair, I checked with them *before* I went out (explained it to them, held up a cig and said I'd be back within ten), so they knew *somebody* had cleared me.
It shouldn't be an issue provided you don't look too shady. Value for "too" could be quite high. Or unless you run into a ranking TSA jerk on a power trip, I suppose.
