I just came across the news that apparently The Moff wrote this on an internet forum in 1995:
Here's a particularly stupid theory. If we take "The Doctor" to be the Doctor's name - even if it is in the form of a title no doubt meaning something deep and Gallifreyan - perhaps our earthly use of the word "doctor" meaning healer or wise man is direct result of the Doctor's multiple interventions in our history as a healer and wise man. In other words, we got it from him. This is a very silly idea and I'm consequently rather proud of it.
The article I read this in is here. It links to the original posting etc. but I don't know much about verifying things like this so it could very well all be made up. Not sure why anyone would do that but these things happen!
If it is true however then OH SWEET LORD (the lord to whom I am referring is again The Moff. The wonderful, wonderful Moff) ♥
The internets are always untrustworthy places but I'll just assume this is real unless/til it gets proved otherwise - it's just too good!

My brain works in such a way that I just imagined an exchange taking place in the writing room (PLEASE LET THERE HAVE BEEN A WRITING ROOM - AND LOTS OF FUTURE DVD EXTRA FOOTAGE INVOLVING SAID WRITERS ROOM - oh wait.. it says Steven Moffat and Edgar Wright & Joe Cornish so I take that to mean The Moff wrote some then Eddie Baby and Joe did their bit after.. not all three together :( well I initially expected that but in my tired state I dared to dream still bigger.... However. EXCITED NONETHELESS FOR THESE COMBINED TALENTS OF GOLD) ...that bracketeering got a bit tangenty so lemme start again. I'd like to imagine this exchange taking place between Joe and Steven in and around (respectively) the writers' room:
Joe - STEVEN?!!
Steven - Just coming!
That was a terribly big build-up for something I suppose very few people will get. And even then they will groan. I just hadn't made that connection before and wanted to address it.
...
BUT ANYWAY. If you are one of those who DID get the reference and so listen to Adam and Joe THEN YAY and if not THEN YAY go get yo'self acquainted!
