HAPPY BIRTHDAY
globalfruitbat!!!!!!!!!! I hope you've been having a fabulous day filled with lots of delightful surprises and fun times.
I'm still reeling from this week's episode of 24!
24 is having such an amazing season! I suspect I may be weird (okay I know I'm weird, but I specifically mean about my reaction to tv shows) because I like it when tv shows kill off characters. Why? Because it raises the stakes, you actually worry about characters. Also, it starts to become unbelievable (more than 24 usually is) when characters are continually in such high stakes situations and the main characters NEVER die. And, death always creates good drama for the surviving characters (eg. BtVS's "The Body").
So 24 opened its season by killing Michelle and David Palmer, which is a huge thing to kill off characters we've become so attached to over 5 seasons. And on top of that shock, we're worried about Tony but once we found out he survived, I relaxed because I figured he'd be safe. HA! Oh yeah, I shouldn't forget the equally shocking death of Edgar last week. I am still mourning Edgar, and I really enjoyed Chloe's reaction this week :He was my friend and I was crappy to him all day.
I totally didn't see the big twist coming in this week's episode (which is unusual for me & 24). I was still reeling from Edgar's death and trying to ignore Kim. I was worrying about the Vice President convincing the President to impose Martial Law but call it something less scary. *shudder* Then I was really sad about the deaths of Lynn and random CTU employee (and yes the totally manipulative moment when we found out he's a dad made me cry) ... but they saved Jack, Audrey, Bill and Chloe who I like. This all distracted me from Tony's story (which was deceptively about him wanting to kill Henderson) to be completely surpised when Henderson (who I didn't think was in a coma) actually KILLED TONY!!!!! No, not Tony!!
What reassured me a bit is that
the television without pity recapper says Kiefer arrives just in time to hear what might be Tony's last words. Yes, I said "might be." It's Tony. I'll believe he's dead when I see his bones. Even though I don't want Tony to be dead, I'd be much sadder and better tv if he actually is dead. Also, Jack holding him when Tony says She's gone (about Michelle) is heart-breaking. *sob*
I'm looking forward to next week when Karen Hayes (played by Jayne Atkinson who looks like Helen Mirren) takes over CTU. Oh yeah, and terrorists try to release MORE nerve gas. Good times, good times.
You may not know this about me because of my continual rambling about Jossverse stuff, television and movies but I LOVE to read!! Or I used to until my endless English degree slowly created a book aversion. I spent most of my childhood in my bedroom reading, and even when we got a colour tv and cable when I was 10 years old, reading continued to be my favourite activity. I still enjoy talking about books and I've been hoping to rediscover my joy of reading books again.
Anyway, this leads to me pimp a great new community started by
earth_vexer:
librumincendere Here's the description of the community: Librum incendere is a place for fans of the Whedonverse to discuss their favourite books. It's not a book club per se - there will be no reading assignments - just discussions about books that we love.
Book burning is strongly discouraged.
No reading assignments and good discussion about books?! That sounds awesome to me!!
