I haven't been on LiveJournal in forever. I figure it might be fun to be on here again! I'll explain why...
I shattered my foot on Friday, September 3, 2010. It was 7am and I was on my way to work when I fell down the stairs in my apartment building. It was not fun. These are the bones I broke (and how I broke them):
--broke the 2nd metatarsal in the middle of it in 3 separate pieces
--broke the 3rd metatarsal in the middle of it in 3 separate pieces
--shattered the ends of the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th metatarsals into multiple pieces (like, each shattered into at least 20-50 little pieces
--cracked the cuboid bone right in half from top to bottom
--fractured off a small piece of the lateral cuneiform
So, I had surgery on it on Friday, September 10, 2010 to put plates on the middle of the 2nd and 3rd metatarsals, put a screw through the cuboid bone, and remove most of the shattered pieces. The surgery was supposed to be 2 hours and it ended up being 3 1/2 hours long. And the representative from the surgical implants hardware place was there overseeing the surgery.
The recovery from this was not fun. I was in an actual cast for 9 weeks. And then in a boot cast for 2 weeks, then in a boot cast walking on it for two weeks. Then I was put in a gym shoe and had to start physical therapy, which I was in for 6 months.
So, I was released from physical therapy in April of 2011 deemed "okay" but still in pain. I never stopped having pain. So, I was in constant pain until January 2012, when I finally went back to the doctor. I got 2 separate Cortisone shots and neither did anything. I went back to physical therapy for about 3 weeks, and my physical therapist released me because he couldn't figure out why I wasn't getting any better. Oh, and by the way, my physical therapist... super hot! He was 24 at the time and extremely cute and extremely easy to flirt with (please don't tell my boyfriend this! Although, technically I wasn't dating my boyfriend yet!).
So, on May 4, 2012, I had more surgery. I had the 3rd metatarsal fused to the lateral cuneiform and the 4th metatarsal fused to the cuboid bone. And honestly, it feels amazing! The pain is totally gone! It's actually a weird feeling! To go from constant pain to no pain, it's odd. The absence of pain is odd, but good! However, the recovery will take time. It's only been 3 weeks and 4 days. And I have another 6-10 weeks being non-weight bearing. And I cannot go back to work until I can walk. I'm enjoying the time off, but I'm not even halfway through this time and I'm already going a little stir crazy! So, hopefully I'll start blogging a bit more to pass the time. I'm finding lots of fun things to do online. Like go on pinterest and ApartmentTherapy. And maybe I'll start back up on NeoPets. Although, I don't remember my username... Amy, do you remember what it is?! Do you even follow me here still?! Let me know!
Also, I might try to go back to graduate school and study child development or child psychology. But where to go?! Dominican doesn't have either of those programs... I guess I need to do some research!
For now, that's all... So, until next time...
