What a day!!!

Yesterday Mike asked me to marry him and I said Yes!!!

We had agreed to get engaged this weekend, I say agreed because I wanted to have surprises for him as well (it didn't fit with my personality to just sit and be a passive participant in this massively important event, I wanted to do something for him as well). So Thursday I surprised him with a mix of his favorite beers that I am magically restocking with a stash hidden (Blue Moon, Guinness, and Newcastle). Friday we made a custard, blueberry pie together (it was another suprrise but he wanted to help me cook).

Saturday was his day. We both woke up early from excitement, fortunatly Mike woke up a little bit earlier. He had gotten my favorite flowers (star gazer lillies) as well as roses and had them around the apartment. He lit several little candles and had put up cards that I had sent him from when he lived in Chicago. Then we made breakfast together, he had gotten organic pancake mix and some great breakfast sausages from whole foods. In addition he has gotten 4 mangos which we proceeded to slit in the bottom and squeeze all the juice out of. So much fun, you have to try this. We then sat down to our lovely breakfast. After which Mike ran off and came back. He got down on one knee and told me he wants me to be a part of his family and said he loved me more than anyone else in the world then asked me to marry him. And I said yes. Oh and he was holding the most beautiful ring in a box while doing this. I didn't cry as I have heard lots of women do, but I was definatly misting up. So I now have a beautiful vintage style sapphire ring which hopefully I will be able to upload a pic of soon.

For the middle of the day since it is so hot here, in the 100s yesterday, we just did low key things. We went out and tried to buy a small indoor tree but found this remarkably difficult since the places either had an infestation or didn't have anyone to help us and didn't have a great selection. So we gave up on that until we come home next weekend and decided to stop off and get a movie. So we went back home and made sandwiches and watched a movie. All this was waiting for Mike's last suprise, he took me on a dinner cruise on the Potomac. It was really lovely and romantic, despite the heat we spent lots of time out on the deck of the ship instead of in the dinning room which had a really loud band. At one point they announced anniversaries and since we had told our waitress we had just gotten engaged, they announced us and lots of people in the room started cheering. We were called to the dancefloor and danced with the couples celebrating their anniversaries, it was really kinda odd to just be up there with people staring at us, but it was really fun as well. It turns out that the ambassador to Kenya was on the boat as well, at one point the band singer yelled out "Sir. Ambassador, are we having a good time?" which Mike and I thought was hilarious. The boat got back at 11 and when we got off we decided to buy the over priced souvenir photo so that we have a memento from the day we got engaged (apart from the ring of coarse).
The docks are directly south of the Mall on the river so we decided to walk the 6 blocks or so up to the mall to continue to enjoy the night, unfortunately it was so hot and humid (all the lights looks hazy from the humidity) once we got to the mall we just hailed a cab and came home. Though one arrived almost instantly so that was nice.

Today we have my last surprise for Mike. I'm going to take him down to a place in our neighborhood where you can go paint pre-made pottery and they will glaze and fire it for you. A couple of years ago (I think it was a couple of years) I went to a place like this in Columbus and made Mike a mug, so now we can go and paint a plate and bowel to go with the mug. Of coarse this will be once Mike wakes up. I think after the excitement of yesterday he's all tuckered out.

Hope everyone else had a good weekend as well!
